40 years of pouring my thoughts to paper
Seems like a fruitless caper
A useless endeavor
Of hurling thoughts to the masses

Trying to drill through the skulls of the thick
Yet I still haven’t figured out the trick
Screaming in the ears of the deaf
My mission of revelation is bereft

Is it worth it to continue?
Do I still have the sinew?
The mind is still willing
But the results are sadly unfulfilling

What was once a cerebral splash
Has fizzled from a flash
To a wild swing of desperation that seems rash

To continue to raise the alarm
Of societies course of self-harm
Runs into the numb
Of a zero sum

Nobody seems to care
Nobody seems to dare
But yet love to scream “it’s not fair”
Oh, if we only had a pair

I was once told
Complaining without a solution is whining
I find this ironically self-defining
I bitch to much
Perhaps, it is I that is out of touch

But that to me sounds wrong
Humanities song is out of tune
The rhythm seems to be conducted by a musical loon
A tyrannical buffoon

I can almost see the future course
And ponder if it’s worth it to scream till I’m hoarse
Secretly, I know it isn’t
I know they have won
I know the system has vanquished
The spirit
The human flame
And replaced it with
Whose, to blame
What a shame
They sell us food
To keep us fat and weak
Give us pills
To keep us meek
Pit us against each other
As racists to seek
When in truth
It is all a lie
To keep control
Of how and when we die
The only question is, why?

Above my grade of pay
To actually say
As I do not know
How it is that evil flows
Other than to contemplate
That perhaps it’s the devil’s fate
To keep the souls of late
For the war that is on its way
To fill his army for the fight that day
And dream that he has his way

But I know better than to believe
The one dedicated to deceive
That I won’t have a reprieve
Because I believe in the one
Who brings the light
Who will stand and fight
Who has always been right
From the beginning to the end
Who has nothing but love to send
My father, my keeper, and friend
The one who to my knee will bend
And will be there in the end
