MaRLo Live At A State Of Trance - ASOT 700 Utrecht [Tech-Energy Closing Set]

This is the third project I submitted for a music composition course with Jason Graves. The assignment was to create a one-minute "Atmospheric Horror" cue using both electronic and organic elements, incorporating foley and sound design.

I was pretty nervous about this one since it was my first time tackling horror, but I was excited to finally put my UK Bass library to work. Because this was an atmospheric piece, we were instructed to avoid melodic themes and instead focus on crafting tension and ambience. For the foley, I had to record myself making a bunch of embarrassing noises—then used distortion and various effects to warp them into something unsettling.

To help with inspiration, my partner wrote an entire space horror backstory for me: You’re sent to investigate a remote research station conducting top-secret experiments—something has gone horribly wrong, and the government lost contact three days ago.

Atmospheric Horror

This cinematic track was designed to feel epic, with a touch of emotion. I went for a hybrid orchestration approach, mixing synths with orchestral instruments, to create a soundscape that fits a futuristic theme.

Right after the intro, you’ll hear some earth-shattering sub-basses (definitely something to experience on a solid monitoring system).
