A full panoply of bubbling, semi-submerged, electro-acoustic abstraction, lysergic drones and oblique, polymetric time signatures recalling the work of Italian avant-jazz outfit Gruppo d’Improvvisazione while simultaneously picking up distant echoes from 'Pangaea' era Miles Davis, 23 Skidoo, Source Direct, Squarepusher, The Heliocentrics, This Heat and Mosquitoes.

'Fizz-cracking drum machines and sparring breakbeats knitted with eyes-shut chord progressions and a seemingly mystic sampler that spits pure magick vibes'.

This is electrified, psychozoic jazz fusion for tomorrow's unlocked vortices!

As we continue on our journey here at Futurepast, we are pleased to welcome a trio that, for many years, we felt shared our vision, Frak! From Sweden, Frak have been founding an original hardware-based sound since the 80’s, first via their own label Börft before collaborating with other labels over three whole decades. 
 
On their ‘Formless Obstruction’ EP, Frak have provided a window into the sinister twists and turns of their work. On the A-side, you see creeping Detroit stylings of ‘Scientific Bella’ set against ‘Wrong Owl’ with it’s EBM underpinnings and industrial inflections. On the flip, ‘Concentrated Feed’ bubbles next to the razor sharp ‘Capacity Faun’, both are filled with characteristic machine quirks and experimentalism.

Uproot & Replant (An Ode to Forests) is Otodojo’s first release on Mesma Records. Originally created as a live set for one of Mesma’s Mesmarize events in Brooklyn, the EP is a collection of four progressive compositions, lush and explosive worlds of sounds and textures neighboring ambient, dub and downtempo territories. The four tracks all combine Otodojo’s distinctive sound, Kalimba loops and natural harmonies as expansive other-worldly panoramas. Otodojo is a prolific New York-born producer, visual artist and organizer of the community-driven parties Microtones that ran in Ithaca (NY) for five years before moving to Detroit with them. Long time friend of the label, we’re honored to have them join the Mesma catalog and family.

A mesmerising transcendental techno trip.  It lifts off with pointillist percussive kinetics, snaky rhythms and spaced out melodies. The energy escalates steadily towards a playful 90’s progressive-house groove, where old-school breakbeat rhythms establish cosmic coordinates. Echoing vocals, spiralling synthesisers and body-rolling acid basslines takes you deeper into spiritual dancing. Manchester based DJ and producer Marcus Paulson debuts on MOS Recordings. Kicking of with a typical Aroy Dee-approved sunrise jam on 'No Go Zone' before three slabs of jacking acid take over. Ticking all boxes from thumping Chicago house to gritty acid and emotive tear jerking strings this EP has all MOS characteristics from start to finish.

Marcus Paulson - Emerging Skyline

For his debut album Dip Shim digs deep into his past for his most personal release yet, drawing on his childhood in Spain for a genre-bending album of electronics, combining influences from house, techno, electro, downtempo, and ambient to create one of the year’s most essential releases.

Dip Shim, who also runs the Bolero record store in Malmo, Sweden, pushes and tweaks those silver boxes to create music with one foot in the past but looking to the future, from the fluid acid house of Dalaplan Jam and Bubble Gate, uptempo electro jams like BDP Fast Life and Tusso Arcade Force, to meditative joints such as One For Regen and Impossible Connection.

But although the album is eclectic, these 12 tracks are underpinned by Dip Shim’s unique hardware-led sound, proving he’s an artist with depth and longevity.
