Together

A new peom 

I can see you all, joke and stare.
But you see, I don't wear for fashion!
I wear for sentiment and care.
This is a way of life. This is my birthright!
 
How many died, so you could squander?
You fool!
Do you ever sit and wonder?! I do!
 
For I am no sheep, in wolfs clothing.
I am a lion, can't you see my mane?!
You idiots are boring!
You drive me insane!
Look at you all, so plain.
 
Concerned with one thing.
How cool you look.
But you don't see what I see.
I see, what you really are.
A coward, lonely in the crowd.
I am a proud man. I wear my crown, my Dastar.
For I am a true man, a Sikh, a Singh.
I am a son of a Sardar!

This is a poem about my father. The most important man in my life.

Hello father.
How are you this evening?
We come to see you everyday.
So far we travel. Do you even know we are here?

You lie there.
So still. Barely moving.
You seem restless.
You were never a man to sit still. Never to notice pain.
You were never ill.

Now here you are.
Entombed in this body.
A body, that has been your temple for so long.
And is now a prison to your thoughts.

I'm sorry father.
I left you and went so far.
I said I went to find myself.
But was I ever lost? I'm lost without you.
That's all that's true.

Tonight I ride a train home.
Strangers all around me.
I can feel them stare.
I'll never fit in.They will never care.
Not like you.

I see the sunset in the distance.
It's magnificent, much like you.
Father, you are my star.
You guide me home.
You are true.
