CO based Poet & videographer who started writing at 13 and doing open-mic venues at 19. Born in NC, Northstar has hosted or performed in open-mics in NC, SC, GA, VA, TN, VT, NY, and Germany.

As an "Army-brat" I lived in different places all over the country while growing up. As a soldier in adulthood, I've seen many places that I will always want to visit again. But NC is where I was born, NC is where I found "me", and NC will always be home.

I started performing at the Coffee Scene in Fayetteville, NC in early 1999 thanks in no small part to the influence of friend/fellow poet Nic Broduer. By the end of that summer, "Java Expressions" (then called "Java Jams") host Neil D. Ray had asked me to co-host with him. For the next 7 years I had the opportunity to experience a never-ending vanguard of musicians and poet-performers and share in their art. I'd go on to join in other open mics around the area, even hosting one or two of my own. I'd started the website www.outlawpoet.com originally as a solo project but later using to give writers a non-commercial place for there work. Corny as it may sound, I even got a few my poetry tracks up on iTUNES.

In the Fall of 2006 I moved to southern Vermont where I joined in with a smaller, more intimate, not to mention drastically different scene at the South Street Cafe. I'd had some wonderful collaborations there, most notably with Lancelee "Southstar" Trimm (R.I.P.). In the next year I'd move on to New York's Capitol Region, performing at Lena's in Saratoga and Albany while hosting an event with musician Corey Hough in Schenectady at The Muddy Cup. More locations...more styles and influences...more experiences I'll never forget.

Work later relocated me to Germany. There was a lot of "crazy" going on life in general so I put down the pen and the microphone and decided to spend the few years just living...breathing...every moment without pause. As I moved back to the US in 2012 I realized that the things I'd seen and done and experienced while abroad had tempered and centered me. At the same time the urge to write, to share, and to experience what others have to share has returned...and so have I. I returned to open mics thanks to the Columbia, SC scene. I was a regular at Drip Coffee for "Mind Gravy", where I'd occasionally guest-host, and sometimes pop in for events at The Art Bar and Jasper Presents: Wet Ink Series. In late-2013 I returned to Fayetteville and began to tie several side projects together. Hosting & cohosting a handful of weekly open mics and producing a number of monthly livestreams.

Following a 15-month stint in eastern Tennessee, I relocated to Colorado Springs where I host “The Over-Prepared Open Mic”, produce a monthly Facebook Live event titled “Front Range Groove”, and am finishing a degree in Digital Cinematography.
