春眠不覺曉
處處聞啼鳥
夜來風雨聲
花落知多少

One Morning in Spring		Meng Haoran

Not knowing of the dawn, 
I was deep in my spring slumber;

Waking up,
I could hear the songbirds singing all around.

The night before 
strong winds coming with the rain did clamour;

Who could tell
how many flowers had fallen on the ground?

With crows resting on the trees,
	the courtyard looks white and bright.											
Cold dew has wet the osmanthus blossoms
	in the still of the night.									

When all the people enjoy 
watching the full moon on high,						

Do they ever know
	where my autumn thoughts will go tonight?

Night Mooring by the Maple Bridge		Zhang Zi

The moon sinking, the crows cawing,
the frost is all over the sky. 

Watching the river maples and fishermen’s fires,
 	I sadly lie.

Outside the walls of Gusu City,
  	there stands the Hanshan Temple.

Coming from the temple to my guest boat, 
the midnight bell tolls by.

Like a flower, it is not a flower;
Like a mist, it is not a mist. 

It comes at midnight;
It leaves at daybreak.

Like a spring dream it appears,
	but staying long it has never been.

the grasses grow there and here;	
They wither away and prosper
once in a year.
					
Fear not the wildfires 
that burn them only in vain;
When spring winds start to blow,
they will flourish again.

Flowers overrun the ancient road
	far and near;
The ruined city has merged into plants 
green and clear.

Once again I have come 
to see off my dear friend;
The parting will leave me 
with a sad heart to mend.

Autumn Night		Du Mu

Silver candles by the cold painted screens
flicker in the autumn moonlight.

With a small silk fan, a young maid chases round 
flapping the fireflies in flight.

On the royal terrace 
the colour of the night looks as cool as water.

She lies there all alone 
watching the stars of the Cowherd and the Weaver.

多情卻似總無情
唯覺樽前笑不成
蠟燭有心還惜別
替人垂淚到天明

At Parting (2)			Du Mu

For all the passion we have shared,
	our love seems to be gone;

Before a goodbye drink,
	it is hard to put a smile on.

Even the candle has a heart
	feeling for our parting;

It will shed silent tears for us
until the coming dawn.
