Strings Of The Afterlife

Since Good Vibrations Music doesn't release much on vinyl these days, the Bristol-based label's occasional compilation style EPs are a genuine must-check. McCabe naturally features prominently throughout. He begins by joining forces with Black Sonix to rework 'Rise' by the Matsiko World Orphan Choir's 'Rise', wrapping dreamy pads, twinkling piano improvisations and heady Rhodes solos around a tactile Latin house groove, before going solo and a rich and soulful rework of Missfly and David Bailey's 'Baby Don't Make Me Wait'. Over on side B, McCabe and Ellis Dee doff a cap to classic US garage on a wonderfully deep dub of 'Got It Bad', before Last Nubian steals the show with the soulful broken beat brilliance of 'Dance Together'.

Following years spent contributing killer EPS to Dam Swindle's Heist Recordings, Outplay founders Fouk (AKA Daniel Leeseman and Hans Peeman) make their debut on Jimpster and Tom Roberts' Freerange Records imprint. The Dutch duo sets the tone with title track 'Get It Done', where jaunty piano stabs, warming chords, disco strings and heady vocal snippets and a chunky bassline dance atop a s chunky bassline and swinging, loose-limbed garage-house groove, before unfurling the string-drenched and emotive beauty of 'Floating'. Track one, Jazzy James (Original Mix) is Jazz influenced (as the title suggests) fused with that signature CJ Reign ‘four to the floor’ sound, albeit on a softer tip. The track then breaks down into a lovely jazz swing beat before whipping back up into the garage vibe, this is dynamite especially if your in a club trying to get a dance floor moving. 
Track 2 ‘Jazzy James’  (BC Dub) is a more raw, Oldskool Garage inspired take on the original with harder four to the floor kicks with chopped vocals and warm pads, a very well refined and polished track as you expect with any of CJ Reign’s productions and one of the strongest garage house releases this year. If you don’t know about CJ Reign now’s your chance!
