"I’m surprisingly feeling like life is kinda low key for me at the moment. After being unemployed for most of last year and working on tons of music, I have two LPs on the way that are both mastered and inching towards production. So I’m really just in between moments here, waiting for the summer. Obviously since there haven’t been any DJ gigs, I’m finding myself drifting towards a lot more mellow music, things I wouldn’t normally play in a dance set. A. I’ve been a part of NYC scene for about 5 years now. 

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. This mix is some of my top favorite underground hiphop classics. A lot of dope women in this mix as well which is always important for me to include in everything I do. Making this mix had me revisit a lot of times in my life so definitely was an emotional one to make. Hiphop will always be my one true love and something i’ll always find my way back to. Because of the current global situation, it's been awhile since Space Ghost and friends have been able to host their monthly dance party Open Soul. While everyone is stuck at home, the Open Soul crew have decided to pick up where their mix series had left off 2 years ago, starting with Vol. 3 by Space Ghost.

This mix holds a few classic selections from the dance night, as well as some more recent finds. Expect an obscure mix of Boogie and Disco mostly from the 80s. These songs are for sweaty nights on a packed dance floor at Starline Social Club. We hope to be back doing what we love one day soon!

NTS Apron Show Space Ghost Takeover - 27th Jan 2021

Space Ghost is the moniker of Sudi Wachspress, a producer and DJ living in Oakland, CA. In the past few years, Space Ghost has released two full length LP's on Danish label Tartelet Records. 2018's Endless Light, "channels a deep heritage of 1980s funk minimalism and analogue boogie. Velvet pads, hood-rat sleaze, and heaped spoonfuls of soul." 2019's Aquarium Nightclub, "takes listeners on a tropical tour through 80s house drums, lush synth landscapes, and deep bass melodies."

Space Ghost DJs around the Bay Area, and you can catch him spinning vinyl every first Friday at his monthly dance party, Open Soul. Co-hosted by three other local DJs, Open Soul is an all vinyl dance night that focuses on Boogie, House, Disco, and everything in between.
