The sure fire club & street anthem named after one of Zimbabwe’s most outspoken & boisterous entrepreneurs, Phil Chiyangwa, sees the raspy voiced Mbare native, relating tales of how his hustling began at Harare’s infamous Ximex Mall dealing forex during the height of Zimbabwe’s cash crunch in 2008 & how he has taken the skills he mastered back then into the music industry to outwork & out earn his competition today. 
 
Over a Rymez beat with a heart pounding bass line & attention grabbing synths, Jnr Brown manages to flow effortlessly over the song while the crescendo slowly builds as he leads us into the chorus that will have anyone who listens chanting “Phil Chiyangwa, Phil Chiyangwa, Phil Chiyangwa, Ndo maLevels !”

Phil Chiyangwa was premiered on ZiFM during T Bass & P Styles’ Hip Hop Show on Friday 3rd of January & was an immediate hit, with a massive response to the song on Twitter & Facebook.

Zimbabwean Artist Hillzy has always straddled a fine line between Hip Hop and RnB. In his boisterous new single Nharo, he firmly positions himself as one of the preeminent Hip Hop lyricists of his cohort.   Riding over a trap beat made by young producer Smok3y he raps,

“Yeah mazuva ano handichaite nharo nevanhu

Zvamakanzwa ndizvozvo

Kwamuri ikoko

Look I been working too hard for these n****s to tell me that I ain’t the best

And I can say it with my chest

I got the whole game pressed”

He asserts himself as one of the top rappers in the game who sees no equals as he effortlessly switches between multiple flows and rhyme schemes. Like one of the lyrics on the song where he nonchalantly boasts “that he can drop a banger so casually” - Nharo is a testament to how easily he can separate himself from his peers.

The single is accompanied by a jaw-dropping and visually stunning video directed by Simdoc. The video is the perfect visual pairing to the song as Hillzy switches between a number of backdrops and computer-generated backdrops like outer space, the mirror dimension and a tribute to Sleepy Hollow. 

Nharo is the lead single and video from his upcoming In The Building album.

Coping With The Effects of The Pandemic with Game "Zeus" Bantsi

This week The Music Industry Incubator hosts Aurelia J. Schultz who is an international copyright expert with 15 years of experience in African Copyright. 

She earned her BA in Religious Studies from Carroll College and her Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville. She began her legal career at Creative Commons where she was the first Africa Regional Coordinator. Most recently, she served as Counsel for Policy and International Affairs at the U.S. Copyright Office. She has trained artists, industry professionals and government officials around the world and enjoys collaborating with others to improve our global creative industries.

GZE- Unauthorised Gift Mixtape

One of Zimbabwe’s most talented and respected urban acts – Simba Tagz has linked up with Africa’s biggest Hip Hop artist to release the remix to Tagz’ 2013 hit Don’t Leave. 
The Don’t Leave remix features Nigeria’s Ice Prince, one of the African continent’s most popular acts. The Hip Hop and Reggae fusion track first appeared on Simba Tagz critically acclaimed 2013 release titled Black. 
The remix features Tagz signature vocals on a beat that borrows instrumentation from both Hip Hop and Caribbean reggae and melds them together to produce a song that blurs the lines between Hip Hop, Reggae, Afrobeat and Pop. Ice Prince adds a stellar verse and his smooth vocals to the chorus to give the song a unique and refreshing sound. 
Don’t Leave was produced by Simba Tagz, additional vocals are provided by Courtney Rusike
