"Temple of Urania" is an audiovisual project by three Polish artists (Justyna Banaszczyk, Darek Pietraszewski, Tomek Popakul), based on an art residency that took place just before the outbreak of the pandemic on the Channel Island of Jersey. The final form of the installation was informed by the experience of pandemic isolation in 2020 and an attempt to find an alternative way of presentation – one that would exclude the collective nature of concerts or clubs, while still offering a space for the actual reception of an audiovisual work, ‘live’ and offline.

The project, inspired by the extraordinary life and work of the artist couple Claude Cahun (b. Lucy Schwob) and Marcel Moore (b. Suzanne Malherbe), who lived on Jersey during the Nazi occupation, will be presented in two versions: as a travelling multi-channel audiovisual installation (premiere: 13-15/08/2021, Sanatorium of Sound Festival, Sokołowsko) and a 28-minute film released by Pointless Geometry on a limited, collector’s VHS tape (premiere: 21/10/2021).

The rich oeuvre of the two forgotten artists, which inspired the Polish trio to create Temple of Urania, includes Les Jeux uraniens (‘Uranian Games’) – Claude Cahun’s controversial, unfinished and unpublished manuscript, surrealist photographs, poetry, collages, and above all the absolutely pioneering philosophy, which accompanied the artists in life and art. Preceding the emergence of terms such as ‘gender’ or ‘non-binary’ by more than 40 years, Cahun sought in her works a space free from divisions, experimenting with her body, appearance and sexuality. ‘Masculine? Feminine?’, she wrote in Aveux non avenus (‘Disavowals’). ‘It depends on the situation. Neuter is the only gender that always suits me’.

Temple of Urania is an homage of sorts to Cahun and Moore, an attempt to draw attention to their unique art and the need to introduce them to the avant-garde canon. Another of its objectives is to create a temple, a portal to a non-binary world, a space for meditation and communal experience – a shared existence. The temple of Urania is also a temple of love governed by Aphrodite Urania, who in Greek mythology symbolised mystical, spiritual and astral love – love beyond borders. Temple of Urania is the fruit of 18 months of work, a collective process prolonged through the pandemic that engulfed the world right after the artists returned from Jersey to Poland. As a result, the work has a deeply personal dimension – it is the result of many hours of discussions, a sense of frustration caused by the impossibility to meet outside the online sphere, and a portal for the artists themselves, a space of pleasure, peace, fulfilment and comfort. A projection of a world imagined by Claude and Marcel, which even today – 100 years later – remains in the sphere of surreal dreams.

The temple created by Banaszczyk, Pietraszewski and Popakul is free from divisions, transporting the viewer to the world imagined and advocated by Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore.

Enchanted Lands is a producer based in Prague, Czech Republic. Her work consists of digitally manipulated sound material, evoking ethereal landscapes, impossible beautiful harps and lush textures. Her debut EP was released on the Genot Centre label, netting her a newcomer of the year award at the Vinyla award. Her debut full length album, Cryptic Island Eco-Sanctuary was released as a digital file and game environment on the forward thinking Quantum Natives label.
Wim Dehaen is a chemistry researcher and trackmaker based in Prague, Czech Republic. He is the co-founder of the Genot Centre label and over the years has done various releases, also under alter egos such as BENELUX ENERGY and Mango Object. His interests include: dsp, systems and dance music subcultures.

“Gaymers’ Cheatsheet” was born in the realms of camp. It’s pretty obvious from the 1st notes of bubblegum-like, fluorescent energy explosions. It is also quirky and hyperpop - from the first to the last second. It’s an ode to the frivolous, queer and colourful domain. It almost feels like RYTERSKI exploded it out of his very own body in the shape of a spectacular rainbow. The sound of it is very far from what we assume to be “contemporary music” (remember Rafał Ryterski has exactly this academic background as a composer) and what we love about it is that it feels like the manifesto of boundless creative freedom and imaginative sound design taken to the highest hights. Please don’t forget it’s also the tribute to RYTERSKI’S fav video games. For example Blacephalon is a Pokemon. Its slender torso and wide hips are yellow with alternating blue and pink stripes - and maybe that’s the best blurb for this piece of music.

The album is a part of the ongoing "Biosignatures" series of compositions and performances exploring sonic boundaries or interconnections between human-made soundscapes and receding or adapting nature within the climate crisis context. Field recordings collected along the banks and bridges of Wisła river in Warsaw, including utilizing electromagnetic or seismographic sensors and hydrophones, serve as the foundation for this performance. It spans from presentation of modestly altered recordings to highly processed audio or data-driven sound synthesis and everything in between. From far-away urban soundscapes to micro-sounds produced by flowing water, from ice and vegetation to birds, amphibians, and insects, all the way up to electromagnetic noise of city infrastructure and heavy bridge resonances.

The project was carried out under the artistic scholarship of city of Warsaw.

Paweł Kulczyński is both a musician and sound artist who specializes in creating sound installations, building instruments, and working with field recordings. He employs multichannel sound synthesis, projection, and composing strategies in his work and is particularly interested in the social and spatial contexts of music, the phenomenology of the audiosphere, acoustics, random events, and conceptualism. Recently, his compositions have featured motifs of mass extinction and planetary mourning. He has performed at prominent festivals in Europe and overseas, including CTM Berlin, Unsound in Kraków, New York, Toronto, and Bishkek, as well as Primavera Sound and recently at Gwangju Biennale.

LOUFR is a solo project by the Polish composer Piotr Bednarczyk. His work focuses on intermedial chamber and electronic music. In his sonic endeavors, he explores the spaces of sound design, seeking sounds and structures characterized by a subjective, strong physical, and emotional impact. The non-musical content woven into his compositions revolves around global changes inevitably leading to the collapse of the world.


FEARS is the third album by Piotr Bednarczyk under the pseudonym LOUFR. The compositions of the Polish artist have resonated in numerous concert halls across Europe, and this time his work finds its home in Pointless Geometry, a label showcasing the most intriguing domestic electronic music.

LOUFR occupies an exceptionally stable position between contemporary music, hyperpop, and deconstructed club sounds. FEARS is a melancholic album, distinctly human despite the high degree of vocal processing and electronic instrumentation. This contrast is palpable from the very beginning, as emotional vocals collide with an almost trap-like beat. The album is not devoid of moments of true beauty, as evident in "269," a track built around a catchy, sung phrase. The title of this composition serves as a kind of manifesto, referencing the number of a calf rescued from a dairy farm by activists.

FEARS explores the extremes of sonic spectrums, juxtaposing delicate piano strikes with industrial noise and string instruments with a creaking synthesizer. Whether shrouded in electronics or warmed by organic instrumentation, all layers resonate with each other in an incredible, engaging harmony.

FEARS is a unique auditory experience—sharp, unconventional, and avant-garde in some places, while warm, inviting, and familiar in others. Bednarczyk's voice carries this paradox, emotional yet bathed in mechanical processing. The music of the Polish artist resonates with the disintegration of the world but does not relinquish hope. If it is to assist us in anything, it is in navigating through difficult emotions. And FEARS accomplishes this with finesse.

SSRI - Mysterious duo (Sandra Mikołajczyk and Igor Gadomski) from the center of Poland, is a band whose activity isn't easy to define but often delving into the darker fringes of dub. Their music is often described as a genre of underwater reggae, likely influenced by the distinctive industrial sound of Łódź and a heavy use of reverb effects. They draw inspiration from the city and its distorted concept of tropical nature.

As residents of Radio Kapitał, hosting a show inspired by mental states and the circumstances of their creation, they bring an additional context and depth to SSRI's music.
Their debut album, set to be released on April 29, 2024, by Pointless Geometry.

SACRALIA is the second LP from Polish sound artist and producer Dawno Temu.

Living within the realms of fast-paced reality we're bypassing the essence of "being fully in the moment". While so much dependent on the notion of time itself, we're sharing a collective fantasy of making the time dependent on us - to pause it, outstretch it, turn it back in order to experience something once again. Dawno Temu approaches that concept with both severity and sensitivity in her compositional process.

Each of six tracks on the album is like a ceremonial object for the performative aspect of careful observation that finds its fulfillment in rapture and emotionality. These objects in their historical meaning have been utilized as a means for establishing or maintaining communication between the sacred (the transcendent, or supernatural) and the profane (the secular, cause and effect). Rather than trying to fit a doctrine Dawno Temu celebrates subjective experience of the individual, points in time and space that are carrying an idiosyncratic, empirical gesture with them: light reflections, moments of pause, sources of pleasure - which are actually common experiences, bound with human nature - and sonically reinterprets them as manifestations of “the sacred” among “the profane”.

The sound of SACRALIA is raw and ascetic; euphoric, but full of reverie. Balancing between wide and dense, Dawno Temu carves her own path in drone and minimalist music. Meditative repetitiveness of structures, slowly evolving and dissolving form the frame of SACRALIA which leaves a room for serenity and reflection in both: herself and the listener. Improv strings ensemble, featuring guest appearance of Antonina Car and Joanna Szczęsnowicz (jablkagruszki) in EVERY PAUSE STRIVES FOR ADMIRANCE, together with synthesizer mimic chanting of a litany where all instruments gently pass each other by and only occasionally synchronize to speak with one voice. In her work process on SACRALIA, Dawno Temu focused on conjuring up certain feelings during long and immersive recording sessions with two synthesizers. This way, slowly forming unique shapes and imagery, she developed a somewhat emotional bond with the instruments, reminding of Éliane Radigue and her composing approach.

Strzał w kolano is a solo project that began with a concert in Lisbon back in 2017 and has recently been revived. The foundation of this project is a classical guitar (tuned quarter-tone) connected via a piezo microphone to separate guitar amplifiers. The signals emanating from the amplifiers are given distinct identities through horizontal and vertical processing or static manipulation within the texture of the sounds themselves.

Conceptually, Majchrzak is captivated by grappling with structures that are unstable, necessary, and unattainable—both controllable and beyond control. For him, composing serves as a method for pinpointing the paradoxes within composition, while improvisation tests the resilience of those paradoxes. It is a way of shaking the structure, acts of self-vandalism performed on the evolving grammar of the piece over time. All this in defense of the digressive nature of musical flow.

“It’s nothing else but a Chicago-style oberek!’ – that was my first thought when I heard the compilation ‘Bangs & Works’, an album that introduced the footwork style to a global audience. At first I was drawn by the triple, syncopated rhythm, based on the iconic sounds of the Roland TR-808 drum machine. My musical explorations have long been centering around triple rhythms of rural Poland. The clash of this archaic, distinctly Polish form with the freedom of the underground, electronic sound from the Black suburbs of Chicago seemed to aesthetically hit the perfect spot. As an anthropologist - dreamer, I also imagined that the presence of a triple rhythm in Chicago – the largest hub of the Polish diaspora in the USA – was not a coincidence. It was a result of a meeting between our native musical tradition and the musical sensitivity of the Black community in the United States. I must admit that this hypothesis was, and still is, purely my musical dream, unsupported by any scientific evidence. However, regardless of the actual roots of this fascinating phenomenon known as footwork, it is hard not to notice certain correlations between footwork and the Polish oberek tradition. This is in both cases music rather meant for dancing than for listening. It’s supposed to present a certain musical and rhythmic challenge to dancers, who can test themselves in a fun-oriented setting, where competition is an integral part. In Polish villages, these are traditional battles of village bands, while in Chicago, they are footwork battles in underground clubs. Both in the oberek and footwork, the most important are a sense of community, energy, and excitement built around dance, accompanied by a characteristic triple pulse.
Therefore, the footberk suite “Far, far in Chicago”, is intended as an imagined musical journey through time and space, where the Polish oberek and Chicago footwork find a common ground in dynamic, triple rhythms. I aim to show that the syncopated rhythm of the mazurka (or of the oberek) can sound just as contemporary and bold as the beats created for Chicago dancers. The composition is meant to be an auditory tribute to both cultures’ dance spirit and their sense of community. It is an attempt to capture the emotions that accompany both footwork dancers and participants of rural dance parties – spaces where music and dance become tools of self-expression.
To connect these two seemingly distant worlds I use a specially designed rhythmic machine. At its heart lies a rural jaz, with build-on Lem-esque pads packed with samples from the TR-808 and TR-909, as well as other electronic sounds."

POINT#65 FOQL "Bug Poems" 

Justyna Banaszczyk aka FOQL works across many fields — as a composer of theatre music and radio plays, but also as a solo artist, turntablist, and cassette DJ under the alias Głupiec. Unable to find a clear place for herself, she identifies with art brut, though she sometimes speaks of working-class experimental music. She is interested in the independent music scene as a form of social glue. For her, artistic practice is a vehicle for survival.

She used to play the violin, but music school quickly clipped her wings, and it took her a long time to find her own language. She started out in noise projects, went through the rite of passage of the club scene, and is currently drawn to the radio play as a genre.
