My first Erasmus semester was in a way the exact opposite of what I expected it to be. I wanted to party, connect with people, have fun, chill. I kinda put my real life on hold for this, to give myself as much space as possible for a reset. But instead, I ended up in a weird limbo, reminiscing on how raves feel like, completely isolated from the world that I was comfortably living in during last years. Surrounded by this omnipresent unfamiliarity and solitude, there was no way for me to run away from that tsunami of unresolved traumas, insecurities and personal bullshit, that has been coming for me drop by drop since I turned 17. I was always scared of this loneliness moment, but when it finally came, it actually felt so. Fucking. Liberating. Meeting myself on those nasty deep levels I was avoiding for so long, was in the end far better and more important than what I wanted to do here at first, even though it got quite ugly and exhausting at times. This was, and is, for sure the strangest time of my life, but this weird freedom coming from realizing who I really am, the good and the bad, and the ability to trully befriend myself, is fucking chefs kiss. My 21 year old ass, high on antidepressants, could never, and I am happy she did not have to. Because its her who got me here in the first place. And I am really happy to be where I am right now.
