Watching dreamtime come and go

soms volgde en soms was ik 
het eerste schaap over de dam
was het schoonste volk 
hoe later op de dag ik kwam 
ging met de kippen op stok
en tikte nergens zo als thuis 
was het beste paard van stal
en het kruis in elk huis 
was soms de krenten in de pap
en soms bleek ik het zout
sprak over koetjes en kalfjes
en soms was mijn zwijgen goud
ik had goud in de mond bij morgenstond
geen zee ging mij te hoog
ik bevoer ze alle zeven
nooit achter beide oren droog 
vond tien vogels in de lucht 
altijd nog beter dan in de hand
heb al mijn schepen op het droge 
achter me verbrand
liep geregeld naar de maan
nam geen blad meer voor de mond
ik stak peper en veren 
in andermans kont 
ik heb stroop gesmeerd 
en hiel gelikt
aan lippen gehangen
en de bittere pil geslikt
men plakte me achter het behang
ik ben van huis en haard verdreven
de gebeten hond geweest
heb mijn geschiedenis herschreven
zat op rozen en op wolken, 
op zwart zaad, in zak en as
hield een oogje in het zeil 
als ik er nog niet onder was
of ik zag door de vingers 
en kneep een oogje dicht
kon zwijgen als het graf
geen bericht was goed bericht
'k heb wet met voet getreden
woei met alle winden mee 
ik lulde uit de nek
en zo bekeek men mij ermee 
ik was de tang, ik was het varken
ik was de vlag en modderschuit
ging over tong en schreef
kroop door het oog de naald weer uit
ik kon elke rug op
heb de goot van zeer dichtbij bekeken
loog alsof het gedrukt stond
heb tegen haren in gestreken
zag tussen de bomen door het bos niet meer
't vuur lag me aan de schenen 
liep tot op mijn tandvlees 
op mijn laatste benen 
men kon geen land met mij te bezeilen 
maakte van een mug een olifant
des duivels' oorkussen was mijn bezigheid
wat ik zei raakte wal nog kant
verkocht knollen voor citroenen 
voor een appel en een ei
heb met regelmaat mijn hart verpand
of draaide om de hete brij
was soms roomser dan de paus
heb de wereldzee bedwongen
zoals de ouden zongen 
piepte ik als jonge
ik keek katten uit de bomen
haalde oude koeien uit de sloot
sloeg goede raad vaak in de wind
of 't nou oud ijzer was of lood
zag het scherpst van de snede
en at koek van eigen deeg
heb in de bek gekeken 
van elk paard dat ik ooit kreeg
maar heb eerlijk gezegd
de put nooit gedempt 
toen het kalf verdronken was

life is the slowest suicide

seems to be bound by gravity only

when the copies have been made

that's what it does
mitosis, commencing
on every imaginable scale
and everywhere else
imagination can't reach
until new preachers will preach
new visions be conceived
new insights received
new delusions will be met
new experiences will be had
the beauty of the cruelty of it all
is the cruelty of the beauty of it all

and know that its there
that it won't go anywhere

carried out the traditions of the flesh
performed all the damned rituals
that weave the threads they weave
sealed it with a kiss and leave like leave

Butterfly's achievement 

far more dangerous and at a greater distance

the story of the envellop 
was so much bigger than the letter 
my body is a temple of which the roof collapsed

it is a butterfly's achievement 
to blindly follow rules 
etched deeply in its intestines 
with the tiniest of needles

had a lot to be thankfull for 
but noone to thank
dreams don't dream themselves no more 

each one tries to fit in the previouses footprints 
tries to repeat what doesn't repeat 
footprints are too tight or just a bit too wide 
i guess we'll have to dream some more 

all of us have a past, we can only dream a future 
i have seven dreams a minute 
and they all split up in two, or three, or four, or more 
i grasp to keep them with me 
to read before dispose 
i just don't have the eyes for it 
its a freakin' overdose

Shabboo Harper - Nobody Else (Original Mix)

A recent astronomical event was, quite obviously, at the root of this odd musical piece. I accidentally came across a few posts on the social networks conveying a certain degree of confidence in this astrological occurrence, but I honestly couldn't afford to share their flaunted optimism. I couldn't recall any idyllic connection between Jupiter and Saturn, so I thought that a recording of an acapella singing performed by my wife about 10 years ago might have best fit my initial sonic atmosphere. It was an improvised sung rendition of an Arabic poem composed by Said Bin Ahmad al-Busaidi (d. 1803, feel free to check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Said_bin_Ahmad for a short bio) that seems to have been used as lyrics by several modern Middle Eastern artists. I thought of it as a suitable fictional outlet for a broken hearted Saturn.
On the other hand, my everyday life subsequently offered me a chance to observe this "great" conjunction from a socio-political perspective in the country where I'm living in. I had the opportunity to take a field audio recording of a riot that took place not so far from my home in mid-January (feel free to check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dI90RFsEF4 for a short account of the current situation), and I thought that it would perfectly give expression both to the disappointment of local people against those who have been managing political power since the so-called Arab Spring in 2011 and to the sympathetic, balanced reaction shown by law enforcement and the government itself. In order to sound politically correct, I thought it was appropriate to give voice to the establishment as well, to "Jupiter" if you like, so I googled around and found an awesome video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpJVq78A4Y0) starring the guy who's been behind the scenes of this brilliant democratic experience in Northern Africa during the last 10 years. I extrapolated a few audio samples from his declarations and used them in the first sequence of this piece.
I finally added a few instrumental and vocal parts, then I processed all of the audio recordings through a heavy, meticulous sound design work. Hope you'll appreciate the result.

The Great Conjunction

Everything is music, I'm loving the imperfections; they bring life to sound. Don't recognize the boxes around it as valid though... Love some jazz in my funk, some rock in my minimal, some punk in my ambient. 
The ever growing composition in my head has absorbed and continiously tries to harmonize my drawings, my paintings, my words and my music. It's no small job, but someone's got to do it...
