Some versions depict Samael as a proud angel who believed he could rule the universe better than God. He joined forces with Lucifer in a rebellion against God, leading to his defeat. 

We all battle with spiritual complexity, and rebelled in some way. Despite that, we all need to return to our father, who awaits us all once we finish in this realm.
