For the inaugural release of Psycho Bummer, we bring an EP from one of our label founders, DJ Scam (Brandon Ivers). Jungle and drum’n’bass was the starting point for us as DJs, friends, and collaborators, so it seemed fitting to begin the story here.

The EP’s opener, ‘Darkside Geezer’, is a tribute to the transition point right before hardcore morphed into jungle in 1993. Although producers worked with a small palette of sounds back then, the emotion and freshness they were able to pull out of their limitations remains unrivaled. ‘Darkside Geezer’ imagines an alternate reality of that period, drawing parallels between it and the seeds of transition that 2020 brought us.

‘Sodium Pentothal’ is the roughest tune on this release, adopting the sonics of modern drum’n’bass production, but channeled through the tropes of the music in its early stages. DJs like Sherelle, Tim Reaper, and Coco Bryce played a tremendous role in inspiring us (and keeping us sane) over the last year, so we wanted to stick to the tempo they helped rekindle.

The closer, ‘Black Swan’, focuses on the simplicity of early hardcore and jungle, but breaks away with glassy chimes and a folding, geometric structure. Made with old samplers and tracker software, ‘Black Swan’ was the first track Scam did for this release and it helped set the tone for what followed.

About Team GB
A one man team hailing from Manchester, UK. Team GB produces high tempo music combining elements of footwork, jungle, halftime, old school rave and drum & bass. As one half of the promotion/DJ team 'Juke Joint' he indulges his love of Chicago footwork and it's related branches, but during lockdown Team GB moved into full time Ableton training. He has now starting seeing the results come to fruition with a number of releases seeing support from Reprezent, Threads, Das Booty & Reform Radio to name just a few.

About Scartip
Scartip, one of the most difficult producers to categorise, has built a reputation for mixing many inspirations into his own, fast-paced sound. According to UKF writer and famous rave-culture author Dave 'Columbo' Jenkins, "his music is like the bastard spawn of a neuro, jungle, and jump-up threesome." Scartip's chaotic, cerebral melting music is a mash-up of all Drum & Bass sub-genres, including early hardcore / jungle and 'leftfield' techno electronica.

Scartip's music has been promoted by Bailey, Foreign Concept, Hazard, DJ Hybrid, Hype, My Nu Leng, Noisia, Nymfo, Nominee, Samurai Breaks, and has been published on over 20 labels, including 4NCY, Deep in the Jungle, Four Corners Music, Incuzion Audio, Propa Talent and Sample Genie to name a few…

Optikal Dubs Records proudly presents their new release, Dirt Bag EP, featuring Britain producer ETRA. The release is the first inclusion of this Multi-genre bass music producer to the label roster of artists.

About ETRA: Releasing his 'Bubblegum' EP on co-founder of Foreign Beggars PAV4N’s label ‘4NCY’ in early 2021, ETRA has seen his releases premiere on DJ Mag and UKBM. Formerly known as Fizika and working with ‘Noxious Records’ ETRA switched from learning to produce Drum & Bass to focus on making music blending all the sounds he is influenced by. ETRA released his first experimental footwork-influenced tracks on Alexander Saylor’s label ‘Nü Kvlture’ in 2021. Following up with a Lofi / Jungle inspired two track EP ‘Digital Dust’ which was heard opening the debut ‘Keep Hush’ event in Sydney, Australia.  When not blending the sounds of Jungle, Breakbeat, Footwork, UKG, Drum & Bass and Dubstep, ETRA continues to work on other creative projects and has created artwork for ’Noxious Records’ and ’Diffrent Music’ You can hear ETRA’s guest mixes on: 4NCY Radio / Sounds of the KVLT / GRIT / In The Void.
