Kotelett is one half of Kotelett & Zadak, the idiosyncratic house duo who have clocked up releases on respected imprints including Katermukke, Selador and Natura Viva. Recording solo for his latest single, Kotelett now returns to Poker Flat Recordings.

I Don't Know starts life as a moody, slick deep house cut, but transforms into a joyously uplifting floor-filling with the graudal introduction of snatches of vocal and triumphant piano chords. On remix duties, Audiojack beef everything up, adding an overall techier flavour complete with rumbling bassline and epic breakdown.

Said the artist of its creation: "This started life as just a fun jam when I couldn't get on with another remix. But the fun of the nineties piano chords finally got me to put my hands up in the studio, and convinced me to finish it.

The vocal would have been a taboo for me for a long time, now it really gets into me! It's always a nice feeling when you can leave your old belief at the roadside".

Brazilian duo Crewcutz sharpen their skills for their Clarisse debut. Their brand of house for tanned torsos and style gurus has quickly earned support and respect from the scene’s pacemakers, and they did themselves no harm at all when 2022 saw them drop a cheeky edit of New Order’s seminal ‘Blue Monday’. ‘Just Like You’ jumps into clear blue waters and turns winter into a distant memory.

The beats fit Clarisse’s dancefloor designs perfectly – heavy on the percussion throughout until palms are pulverised, a bassline that’s doughy yet flexible, and the relaxed yet punchy feel of a beach party that, like the nature of the rolling groove, doesn’t know and doesn’t care when closing time will be. Vocally ‘Just Like You’ takes its cues from a sassylicious princess who’ll love you long time - pure diva material schooled on how to be a material girl and about bringing all the boys to the yard, the sort who are carried to the pool on their own personal 24 carat lounger.

The chorus though loosens up and enters the spirit of things, made to swing and sway shoulder to shoulder with all the other sun-seekers this will attract. Like a hot knife through butter, come and get a slice of what Crewcutz are serving.

Still on their six-legged victory lap following the massive success of the Blessed EP, Tiga & The Martinez Brothers look to the outer limits of techno and beyond for the remixes. “Blessed was a baby born of friendship, and you don’t turn your baby over to some dude making ‘dark, atmospheric bangers' on Ableton. You take that baby, you put on her bonnet and you entrust her to some of the most successful men in the world so you can take your wife salsa dancing for once,” says Tiga. 

Longtime Turbo target Ricardo Villalobos delivers his personal magic on the remix of “Cleopatra." This is not the kind of everyday magic you’d find in a kind word from a stranger or the childlike wonder of a child. This is the good kind of magic.

Louis Vuitton Creative Director/Off-White mastermind Virgil Abloh, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, was a big fan of “Blessed,” and turns in a remix that is closer to "future jazz” than Tiga would have accepted from anyone else on that list, except for maybe Hugh Jackman. Abloh also designed the artwork for the release, which depicts the fall of man as seen through the eyes of a jean jacket. 

“I speak for everyone at Turbo when I say we are delighted and honoured to bring these two friends and creative forces into the fold,” says Tiga. “Some people well tell you that hatred and divisiveness are the answers to society’s ills, but I respectfully disagree. It’s friendship that’s gonna see us through. If I can convince two of today’s leading cultural figures to roll up their sleeves and figure out my remix pack, imagine what I could do if given control of a small country. I don’t see any other labels making these kinds of claims, and to me that says a lot.”
