The morning was crisp and clear. The Hague was only just beginning to stir, but someone had already found their rhythm. Plate had a list of addresses saved in his notes — potential spots for their future vinyl store. Real plans, of course, called for a bit of luck and beautiful views: linden trees whispering along the canals, a sea breeze full of encouragement, distant seagull calls, and the soft clang of trams.

First stop: Denneweg — a street that felt like a page from a design magazine, nothing but showrooms, galleries, antiques, and wine. A realtor in a light shirt was already waiting by the door of a former barbershop: a clean rectangular space with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. Great foot traffic. A storefront that seemed to come alive in front of the observer’s eyes. Plate could already hear the music playing, see visitors flipping through records in search of something unique.

Next came Papestraat — louder, and somehow closer to heart. A three-story building next to the city’s best coffee spot. Until recently, it had housed a small shop of handmade goods. It was the kind of place you could work, drink tea, and build a little corner lined with shelves and turntables in. The classic Dutch staircase alone was enough to inspire joy.

The day hadn’t gone in vain. Plate came home with photos of two key locations. One looked like an album cover, the other like a B-side you want to play over and over again. Needle smiled at what she saw. Somewhere between those two streets, their next chapter was quietly going underway.

Kittball Records co-founder Juliet Sikora combines with fellow label favourite Flo Mrzdk this August as the pair deliver ‘The Get Down’, whilst Pete Sabo steps up on remix duties.
Following a debut appearance as part of the label’s ‘Kittball Konspiracy Vol. 3’ back in 2011, Dortmund’s Flo Mrzdk has since established himself as one of the imprint’s core artists, contributing towards numerous compilations and two full EPs to date. Joining him is label co-founder Juliet Sikora, who arrives fresh from recent outings on Green Velvet’s Relief and Cajual imprints and Beatport topping collaborations with Return Of The Jaded amongst many. Here we see the two combine once more following their ‘U Can’ EP in 2012, whilst Austria based producer Pete Sabo (Bunny Tiger Dubs / Spinnin’ Deep) turns in a dynamic and melodic remix on the flip.
Flo Mrzdk & Sikora’s title track ‘The Get Down’ reveals a slick, rolling production that combines bumping bass licks and shuffling hats with intermittent vocal hooks and rich chords throughout, whilst Pete Sabo’s interpretation sees the focus shifted towards driving oscillating synth builds guided by heavy, regimented kicks and the original’s infectious vocals.

Kotelett & Zadak - Clovis 

The mysterious pair seemingly from another planet (or at least the north German coast) drop a three track bomb on Poker Flat Recordings. 

Kotelett & Zadak (@kotelettzadak) bring a much needed sense of fun to the floor with their tracks, and this release is perhaps their best yet.

Title track 'Clovis' is full of energy, and the boys utilize a lot of effects to add some spice to their already sizzling groove. It’s full of drama and and suspense, with unexpected melodic elements that verge on the cosmic - perfect for that open air moment.

'Syntax' is a spacey groover also, a thick drum track provides the direction, while inventive samples, stabs and hits provide the fun along the way before a cheeky vocoder voice arrives in the breakdown.

'I LFO You' is a a tech house heater - the track has space galore and a perfectly placed synth squiggle to provide the hook.
