Michael Mayer, aka Mr. Lava Lava asked a bunch of his absolute favourite artists to have a go at some of the tracks from his recent album 'The Floor Is Lava'. Longtime collaborator DAVE DK is a masterful producer and remixer that appears regularly on Pampa and Kompakt. His take on 'The Solution' feels like a road trip to paradise and back. Montreal's PRIORI is one of the hottest names in showbiz right now. His ability to bridge genres and create pristine sound designs is fully on display in his remix for 'The Solution'. Last but not least, the legend that is SEBASTIAN MULLAERT took a moment off from his revered Circle Of Live jams to transform the albums deepest cut 'Ardor' into an extraordinary musical journey. "You Make Me Feel" was the first outtake from Steve Bug's second Poker Flat album "Sensual". Slowly but unmistakebly building up a hypnotic groove with a rolling percussion loop, ice-cold snare and hollering vocal (reminiscent of Gainsbourg's "Bonny and Clyde"), Bug forces you flashing your sharpest dancing routines even before he throws in that distorted, take-no-prisoners, Saunderson-style organ-bassline. Flip over for another version that's served up straightened-out and stripped down yet still manages to come up with a higher percentage of FUNK. Another totally satisfying five star menu for the Poker Flat gourmet.

Poker Flat's Forward To The Past anthology returns in its 3rd iteration, as lean and mean as it ever was and precision- engineered to make you jack, dream and all things in between. The winning formula remains the same: task a selection of hots- hot veteran and up-and-coming producers with recapturing the style and mood of early club music, paying homage to the golden years between 1985 and 1992 when Chicago House and Acid, New York House and Detroit Techno took the world and its dancefloors by storm. The result is a coll- ection of new and exclusive tracks as ad- dictive as the stone cold classics that in- fluenced them - a tribute and, at the same time, the cutting edge of contemporary music production.
LA-based compatriot MANIK contributes a rolling, no-frills jam that sticks to the tried and tested production values of early acid as if to say, "Why mess with perfection?"

From his small Amsterdam studio crammed with classic drum machines and synths, Wouter de Moor serves up 'Bon Voyage', a simmering analogue acid jam bedecked with snickering percussive flourishes and long, sustained chords for that blue-tinged Detroit vibe.
Pavel Iudin, meanwhile, adds jazzy Rhodes inflections and whistling birdsong to a similarly bubbling groove.
Veteran DJ Aakmael adopts the classic Juno bass sound to pay homage to the godfather of deep, Larry Heard, for an ex- ercise in immersive repetition.

"Weltschmerz: The kind of feeling experienced by someone who understands that physical reality can never satisfy the demands of the mind."

Lead track ‘Weltschmerz’ sounds like an instant Berghain classic; dark, massive, trippy, and with an emotional character all too rare within the genre. The kicks are banging, the verbed out percussion is fierce, and it all moves around a haunting melodic breakdown that artfully dances on the right side of ‘progressive.’ It’s a killer track that perfectly sets the tone for the whole record.

‘Damage Control’ is a straightforward flex-a-thon, a housier rhythm that struts along confidently. The technical term is ‘floor-filler.’ ‘Lonesome’ brings the emotion back, with it’s super-tense, unresolved melodies, this is perfect for all your mega-club yearning & gurning needs. ‘Relatives of None’ is the nastiest of the bunch, and probably the most at home on Turbo, built around a screechy synth hook. Finally, ’Weltschmerz (Melodic Theme)’ provides an epic ambient outro, crystallizing the emotional tones of the EP and establishing a sense of artistic vision that ascends well beyond the pedestrian.
