Celebrating the 150th vinyl EP release, and as a prelude to 15 years of Poker Flat Recordings, Steve Bug returns to his own label to drop a sizzling three track EP of powerful, seductive house music.

Lead cut 'Pelican Glide' exhibits his trademark driving grooves and highly effective off-kilter synths - the sort of track that turns dance floors and festivals upside down when dropped at the right moment. The deep kick hits hard while clever interplay between pads, melodic leads and percussion keep the tension finely tuned.

Fellow Berliners youANDme yield a remix of 'Pelican Glide', which transforms the track into something spacey and cinematic, before subtly reintroducing Steve Bug's killer synth line.

Also gracing this release is 'Till It's Gone'; built around a tough-as-nails house groove, and coupled with a breathy, alluring vocal from Delhia De France: the grand diva of the German electronic scene.

The pair go way back, having being friends, DJ colleagues, co producers and label mates for over 20 years. Their latest release on Poker Flat, shows they have continued to bring out the best in each other. 'It’s Time', the title track, kicks off in fine style - a solid, urgent groove sets the tone, before sharp claps, a thick bass pulse and classic house stabs add the flavour. The pair clearly know how to work a floor.'

Hannes Bieger's Tephra EP for Poker Flat was a highlight of 2018 - the acclaimed mixing engineer stepping up to the controls as a producer and delivering a master class in dancefloor dynamics. Following up from that success, Bieger returns to Poker Flat with the three track 'Chemistry' release. 

The title track is a richly detailed production (unsurprisingly), featuring a hypnotic rhythms track and a beautifully realised vocal performance from Alexander Sjödin (Sailor & I). 

The track that already became a highlight in Bieger's live-sets is also released here as a dub, providing DJs with two different versions. 

'El Fuego' completes the release - a tough, pounding kick interacts with a deep, evolving bassline that snakes its way through the track, joined by acidic wiggles and dramatic stabs. An exercise in restraint and release that Bieger is fast becoming celebrated for.

Hannes Bieger, Sailor & I - Chemistry

Fresh on the trail of this year’s exceptional long player ‘Noir’, Steve Bug returns with perhaps his most deep house-oriented track in a while – ‘The Long Run’.

Teaming up with US house legend Mr. V, who inititally donated vocals only, the collaboration brought up Mr V‘s own interpretation of Bug‘s track. This release is as delicious a serving of classic New York deep house as you will hear all year – or any year.

Dessous’ main man is at the controls, riding out a sumptuous, Rhodes-driven groove that references golden era Kerri Chandler and friends, but remains completely rooted in 2012. Mr V’s spoken word vocal lays out the manifesto for these two house pioneers – both are committed to quality music, made with passion and respect.

Next stop on ‘The Long Run’ is Mr. V’s stunning take on the same track. Ratcheting up the percussive elements, the New York native injects hints of the Latin rhythms that define many of his productions, making this into a stone-cold club banger whatever the party.

Both tracks come with corresponding instrumental versions for the DJs, rounding out this irresistible release that continues Dessous’ outstanding run of releases this year.

Daniel Dexter’s reputation as party starter extraordinaire keeps on growing – a result of his punishing touring schedule and consistently exceptional output of some of Europe’s top electronic labels. But it’s fair to say that Berlin based Dexter’s most rewarding and boundary-pushing work so far has been courtesy of Poker Flat Recordings – which makes this edition of the Hamburg imprint’s Focus On series very timely. 

Focus On Daniel Dexter joins the already illustrious company of previous releases that featured Argy and Guido Schneider, and is set to bring Dexter’s unique brand of dancefloor mayhem to yet more ears. Having spent 2012 touring the world and ripping up dancefloors in every way imaginable, this release brings into sharp focus the force of nature that is Daniel Dexter.  

The release draws together some key releases and distinct high points of his sound over the last few years, as well as giving us some very exciting glimpses of what’s in store in the future – scattered throughout this weighty release are numerous unreleased and exclusive cuts set to detonate dancefloors throughout 2013.  The exclusive tracks are available on the vinyl release, while digital customers can pick up all 13 unmixed tracks. What’s more, the album is also being released on CD as an exclusive mix made by Dexter himself, showcasing not only his expertly crafted tracks but his unique and highly sought after mixing skills – not to be missed! 

The journey starts with ‘The Other Day’ – Dexter’s emotional mood setter sounding as good as ever – a true slice of atmospheric dance music as you’ll hear. The album also makes sure to stop by some other Dexter-defining moments, including ‘No House for Old Men’ from 2011, and a trio of stunning releases on Poker Flat from 2012 – ‘Sirens’, ‘Storm’ and ‘Murder’.  Each was a master class in dynamics and production savvy, referencing classic sounds but never being overawed by them. Dexter’s astounding remix for Zombie Disco Squad’s ‘Righteous Sound’ on Made to Play is another case in point- tight, punchy, and filled with a menace and attitude that is all Dexter. 

Dexter’s skills for balancing the needs of dancefloors to the more cerebral needs of the home listeners is clear - and nowhere more so than on the new and exclusive tracks on this release. ‘Birds’ has a lightness of touch that makes it perfect for very early or very late in any set. ‘Night Away’ is more upfront but maintains a jazzy undertone and boasts a smouldering vocal from Geraldine Roth – and also comes with a handy dub version for the DJs. ‘Raw Land’ is a firing late night house monster, deep and trippy and sure to turn a few floors inside out when played at the right moment. 

‘Papillon’ builds dramatically, utilizes its few elements to create a wicked groove reminiscent of classic period Carl Craig, while ‘Why So Serious?’ adds another dimension of edginess to the proceedings. 
‘In To The Wild’ further references Dexter’s debt to Detroit, but transcends the sum of its parts to create a lush and emotive deep bomb.  Rounding off the album is Dexter’s upcoming remix of Gender Bombs ‘Danube’- a perfect way to close this epic journey- sitting somewhere between trip hop and deep house, this track showcases Dexter’s extraordinary diversity and sure touch for emotional dance music.
