The next label to feature in the SB guest mix series requires little to no introduction. Minted 25 years ago by high school friends, Jamie 'Jimpster' Odell and Tom Roberts, and having amassed a mighty 412 releases (listed on discogs anyway) we welcome Freerange Records to the fold. 

With a discography as deep as the music therein, Freerange member, Conrad Lee has elected to "dig through the lesser explored corners of the back-catalogue, picking out tracks that still feel relevant today and pairing them with some, but not all, of my favourite releases from my time from starting as an intern up until now. So expect tracks from Jimpster, Shur-i-kan, Crackazat, Ewan Jansen and Ron Trent among others."

Cacophony is by definition a collision of multiple sounds in discordance. Sounds that shouldn't go together basically. Bogotá, Colombia’s Felipe Gordon does this, but in euphony(bringing pleasure to ones ear)! Spreading himself blissfully across jazzy, disco, funky and soulful elements he pours this concoction into his cluby productions and sets which has now given him international recognition. Having put out forty plus 12" releases and an album since 2014, including his brilliant "Timeless EP" on our Karakul subsidiary, he has found himself on labels like Shall Not Fade, Razor'N'Tape, Toytonics and some of the most long standing greats more recently like Nervous records. For Phonica mix 104 Felipe walks us through what for him brings musicality into electronic music, what live elements bring humanity into our dance floors. It's always very touching to find musical testimonials. Over 20 years ago, my booking agency asked me to record this mix. In 2002, I was very inspired by the San Francisco scene. There were some great labels, DJs and artists there... What makes me happy is that I could still play 95% of those records. Time goes by too quickly, but I'm still as passionate and involved as ever. It was a great period, we played 100% vinyl, I scoured the record shops... This mix is an opportunity to look back on a past with tons of great memories. Dutch producer and DJ Poko poko pushes an eclectic house and disco sound that oozes charisma, funk, soul, colour and good energy. Releasing on acclaimed imprints like Monologues Records, Feedasoul, House Cookin’ and Tomorrow Is Now Kid! He’s building a very impressive catalogue and a global fanbase with it.
 
His name comes from the Italian musical direction Poco a poco – ‘little by little’. “I’ve always felt strongly related to that term and used it a lot when the world around me felt like moving too fast” he says. “This project should be a life’s work and should evolve over time. Wherever it goes or takes me. No pressure, no obligations, just a way of living.” And so it has gone in his freewheeling journey as Poko poko so far, building up his production output and finding increasing success on quality house music labels, as well as some free downloads given away by the likes of Eton Messy and successful edits released to world wide acclaim.

Often to be found spreading his musical gospel in clubs in the Southern side of the Netherlands, he also sounds out musical missives from his @atmym radio show. “It can vary from long-lost funk and disco treasures to early ‘90s Chicago or acid house and from slick mid-tempo West Coast boogie and late ‘70s soul steppers to new wave or psychedelic rock and back to techno and electro again. I like catchy, snappy and quirky stuff, so if there’s a common theme which runs through my style as a DJ, it must be that.”
