Sonata For Saxophone And Harp - Movement 2

The Polaris Duo present their debut album ‘illuminate’ which features works, both old and new, for the unusual combination of Saxophone and Harp. 
The duo met at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the album reflects their strong connection with the city by including works by Manchester based composers Andy Scott, Rob Buckland and Melissa Douglas. Alongside these more contemporary pieces are arrangements of works by CPE Bach and Camille Saint-Saëns which begin to uncover the great range of colours that this combination of instruments can create. 

“Having performed together since 2011, we have been dreaming of recording a debut album for quite some time. Our repertoire has developed and grown over the past 7 years and we’re delighted to be able to showcase some really beautiful music.
As an ensemble of such unusual instrumentation, we have found it liberating to be free from expectation regarding our choice of repertoire. As such, here you will find works that are hundreds of years old nestled amongst those which were a matter of weeks old at the time of recording. Our passion for this music and ensemble lies in the versatility of our individual instruments as well as the variety of timbres we can create as a duo. Gillian Blair (saxophones) and Elinor Nicholson (harp) met when they began studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2010. They formed the Polaris Duo in May 2011 and have since been exploring an eclectic range of repertoire and possibilities for this unusual instrumentation. 
The Polaris Duo are dedicated to presenting new music and expanding the repertoire for this uncommon pairing of instruments, this has led to their collaboration with several composers; most recently they gave the world premiere of Andy Scott's 'Sonata for Saxophone and Harp' at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress.
