My humble contribution to the remix contest put together by The Unnofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW.com) and featured Reason artist Olivia Broadfield.

So this is my take on a nice song by an artist with a beautiful voice. At first my plan was to make it into an chillout electronica track with lots of rhytm and beats. I may do that later, but for now and for this contest I landed on a candlelit version focusing on the vocal performance and the lyrics. I simply could not resist it, and the song deserved it.

I had some serious issues with bass distortion when transcoding inside SoundCloud. Had to remove the juicy part of the sub, but I've got an extra copy hanging around on my hard drive...

So this is my take on a nice song by an artist with a beautiful voice. At first my plan was to make it into an chillout electronica track with lots of rhytm and beats. I may do that later, but for now and for this contest I landed on a candlelit version focusing on the vocal performance and the lyrics. I simply could not resist it, and the song deserved it.

This is my second upload for this contest. The first one I trimmed down and got rid of most of the wonderful sub due to distortion issues. The issues seem to arise when my 48kHz  file is transcoded inside SoundCloud. There is no disturbing noise inside Reason. It might just be a compressor issue or some frequency that needs tweeking to get it right. I am not fluent in mastering my projects just yet, but I am learning. 

I just had to upload the whole version with slightly more sub levels than the last one, I could not just discard it after all the hard work. So for what it is worth, here is "Say" by Olivia Broadfield in the Extended PolarLights Candlelit Remix.

I have started making some music again after many years without the inspiration or time to sit down and let the mind go. In the process I have had a look through my drives to find old projects. This is one of those old ones. The file indicates that is from 8 years back, but I think it is even older. It is from my Cubase days, and the levels and mastering is not up to my standards today. But I have no idea where my Cubase dongle is, and I think I will be better off restaging the rig inside Reason and make it all over again.

I hope you enjoy the track despite its weaknesses. It was made with a beautiful view at the northern norwegian scenery in late autumn with the last rays light leaving for the long and cold winter.

This is another one of my old projects. It was created for my wedding in 2002. This version is loopable. As for the rest of the old projects, individual levels and the overall mastering is not up to todays standards. In time I might fix and remaster it.

PolarLights - Aurora

Making music is a great way to relax and get all every day stuff off my mind.

I haven't done any real music making for the last 6-8 years. There has not been enough time for that. I recently got myself a new master keyboard and that has been a great inspiration to pick up where I left my studio.

Piano is my main instrument, but I've also got a saxophone that I want to spend more time with in the near future. But for now I have no live recording possibilities in my hardware setup.

So my grand plan is to spend more time in my studio from now on. And hopefully that will result in tracks in here that you will enjoy.
