POLITE BUREAUX announce the release of their fourth single ‘What the Dormouse Said’. Self-recorded and released. Like many of the band’s songs this is storytelling beyond counter culture and freeing the mind of how we live. A fairy-tale about a dormouse who befriended the lead singer Joe Smith and how the mouse communicated in codes of colour using Quality Street wrappers while they lived together in a van parked up on the outskirts of Bradford.
 
The band has strong links to both Bradford and Brighton and the mix of culture from both cities has influenced a unique take on songs that tell stories of navigating places from working class routes, while self-identifying as diverse.
 
The is one of the bands few tracks to be mixed and mastered with Eve Studios using unique vintage BBC audio equipment. Creating sharp high ends, vibrancy and depth.
 
A road trip from BRadford to BRighton along with the release of this single will take place in August
playing Bradford Underground on the 19th and Brighton Prince Albert on the 25th with two more dates to be announced.

Polite Bureaux’s aggressive first track in a series of venting brutal truths of living with difference.

Bradford formed the broken-beat-maker, Joe Smith also known as Polite Bureaux. Fusing bass lines and beats with alt-electronic production, Smith has ears to the ground across the UK, eagerly awaiting the next Polite Bureaux release. Dyslexic Smith attributes his words to the diabolical truths of John Cooper Clarke. Other influences stem from Underworld and Peter Hook (Hookie) from Joy Division.

Born in the big city of London with a family history of Irish and Filipino Malay roots, Smith’s youth was spent much across the country than a constant in one place. Strong family unity is what elevates Polite Bureaux from the crowd, with words that hit home and stand out as most ordinary in today’s world. Championing his youngster from the sidelines is wordsmith and poet, Robert. Smith’s father plays a significant role in the lyricism of Polite Bureaux as his poetry is used as power, to pride and break stigma through the performance of music.

Expect brutal honesty and a true energy in his venting on stage and in your ears. It’s always more than just a play on words…

Bradford, the city of Culture, formed the broken-beat-maker Joe Smith, also known as Polite Bureaux. Smith is joined on stage by his Blood Sister Maya Lili and Raver Viv Maher, introducing Ying and Yang energy live.

2023: Polite Bureaux supported Benefits, also hitting the stage later that year, performing at The Great Escape Festival 2023, releasing their latest single UAMELON, and gaining airplay on BBC Introducing with Melita Dennett and Callum French. While gaining support from the famous music & culture magazine Louder Than War.

Polite Bureaux and Dyslexic Smith attributes his words to the diabolical truths of John Cooper Clarke. Other influences stem from Underworld, Joy Division, The Prodigy, and Sleafod Mods. Ultimately, Polite Bureaux's sound is upbeat and genre-mashing.
