Well-Healed, is a virtual community who are getting real, by speaking our truths about chronic illness. Together we are educating, and collectively, we are healing.
I see conversation and peer support as part of all healing journeys.
Oftentimes access to this (and many other resources) is sadly lacking for ELCI and disabled folks.

Having worked as a community organiser, and social justice campaigner - my deepest held hope is to connect more people- especially women, with similar histories or health challenges living through the pandemic. We are best placed to support one another. If we can share our stories perhaps we can also raise public awareness, shift the victim blaming narrative and build resilience through holding space to speak these truths not just among our own sharing circles and healing networks- but out in the wider world. 

I was spurred on to finally launch this podcast when it transpired that of all the demographics- “Disabled women comprise 75% of Coronavirus fatalities.”

The government’s legal enshrinement of DNRs (Do Not Resuscitate orders- mainly directed at people with disabilities) have spawned an additional layer of terror through what is already a much scarier time for immune-compromised and disabled folks.

The above was another kick in the proverbial to begin this series.
In hosting this series I want to reframe the way disability is spoken about..
At some stage I'd like to casually, but brutally cross examine the media role in shaping the narrative and the perceptions of chronically ill people (see BBC's recent coverage 'Sickness and Lies' on social media influencers with chronic illness) and finally- Government' response to the pandemic, and the fact that the majority deaths were of disabled women.With the advent of long Covid even more people than ever now find themselves in the wilderness that comes with having an untreatable and often stigmatised illness.



Before I continue I want to share with listeners the dedication for the inaugural podcast - to an old friend - Louise Woodcock, who tragically left too soon.
Lou also had m.e. but was always the life and soul of every party.

If you are concerned, please refer them to resources such as Grassroots Suicide Prevention, Papyrus UK and the Samaritans, and contact someone who might be able to support them such as a close family member or friend, where possible.
