Hi my name is Polly (Mark Pearson), I live in Fareham Hampshire and I have recently written a hatful of songs; one of which is called Mrs Mayday. Please find attached the lyrics and a demo recording.
It is a dark song about a man’s obsession with the Madame of a house of ill-repute. It was conceived in a Bavarian Whore-House and born in the darkest, sleaziest bar you could ever imagine in - Portsmouth.
It is quirky, sexy, dark, evocative but melodic and fits, I guess into a blues/jazz/R & B genre – it’s quite hypnotic.
I have configured the whole arrangement with harmonious interludes, instrumental refrains and voice-led strategies. It is both a ballad and a dialogue with catchy; almost New Orleans funeral refrains.
I have engaged the help of jazz/blues musicians and a female singer – I have put the man’s voice down myself in this scratch demo.
I have sought a heterogeneous feedback from various artists and writers – all of whom have honoured me with flattering accolades.
