Night Shift Sessions | Episode #01 - Polocid

🔥 This is a live recording from my set on the Smile High Art Car during the Man Burn at Burning Man 2025. Smile High, built by my friend Eric, is a spaceship-inspired art car — and the energy on board that night was unforgettable.

I only captured the final two hours of this ~3-hour journey, but it perfectly reflects the ride we all took together. The set flowed completely unplanned, moving through progressive house → indie dance → melodic techno → back into progressive house and progressive breaks.

This one started right around sunset — fitting, since my DJ name, Zakat, means “sunset” in Russian 🌅.

This Burn, I didn’t really have scheduled sets outside of my Burnpops camp, but I was manifesting the chance to share my sound somewhere new on playa. That’s when I spotted Eric on Smile High during Burn Night, and he asked if I wanted to jump on the decks. I enthusiastically said yes — and the rest became one of my most memorable sets yet.

It felt like a full-circle moment: years ago, Eric was the first person to let me “DJ” (off my phone!) at the Renegade Burn on the fabled Dust Bus. That little taste of DJing lit the spark that put me on this journey — and now, playing Burn Night on Smile High, it all came back around in the best way possible.

The BORG is a total labor of love from Bobwire and Mr Burns — they’ve put literally thousands of hours into this beast. I got to support this project off-playa and then play on it again for its second year, which was just unreal.

Burn night is something else. Heat, noise, wind… all the energy from the whole week just hits you at once. The playa erupts, and this set is what came out of that: dark, driving, intense, raw house and techno. It was so much fun to play, and massive thanks to everyone who danced and shared the night. This one felt really special.

The first part of the recording got lost when the power cut out from overheating (that fire is seriously wild!!). So what you’re hearing here is part 2, the second half of my ~3-hour set from the night.

PAULLO | Burning man 2025 | SlóMöth

This was the very first set played at Dementha for the week. We were planning to kick things off with our first-ever evening party on Sunday to celebrate Dementha’s 20th anniversary, but the rain had other plans. So my Monday afternoon set ended up being the opener.

I wanted to start things off with a bang — high energy, high tempo, positive vibes to get the floor moving and set the stage for the week ahead. This set gave me the chance to stretch a little and play tracks I don’t usually get to in club sets: faster cuts, bits of UK garage, dubstep influences — all mixed in with the house and techno I love. Burning Man (and Dementha) gives you the freedom to experiment and push the edges, and I had a lot of fun leaning into that.

It felt like a great way to launch into the week. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did playing it.
