Having been displaced from Los Angeles after the devastating January, 2025 fires in Los Angeles, Lorise and James recorded this ditty to bring humor to the reality of being stranded at the U.S. Post Office in Lāhainā, a place in Maui that also recently experienced devastating fires.

Influenced by the honor of being humorously called a “high-priestess” in the YouTube sensation, The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo (in the role of Tatiana, influenced by the real-life Danièle Lorise Watts), Lorise has continued to cultivate an interest in the various words used to invoke shared rites. While visiting the Hawaiian Islands, she read a story about the legend of Kahunas as caretakers of sacred Hawaiian rites, and the belief that they had the power to “pray people to death.” One day, after weeks of recurrent worry about her and James safety near the Lāhainā resorts, as they’d struggled with various manifested ideas in the form of recurrent characters, persona’s, and circumstances— that she perceived brought suffering to her James—she suggested they record this song together to bring about a spiritual death of those energies, so they could (as individuals) access the energetic renewal required to travel more easily.

After time at the Pa’ai Chinese Cemetery allowed Lorise and James space to express grief, a hydration blessing from Crema Maui Food Truck blessed their return to Mantokuji Soto Zen Mission,  which provided space to balance their grief through the expression of this spontaneous affirmation of flow.

After sitting, stretching, and dancing on the sidewalk, for many hours, in front of what was formerly an establishment called Old Charley’s in Pa’ai this song was recorded to bring cathartic celebration to the fantastic sensations that being there revealed.

An ode to two humans who shared great guidance with Lorise and James (that Lorise, particularly, had previously sought from her biological father), and in doing so, provided the pair with a sense of resilience to supplement the formative guidance they received from their own fathers.

After weeks of eating gourmet to-go food, James had scored from the abundant trash cans of the Maui Wailea resort area (a temporary spiritual practice he adopted and named, for Lorise’s entertainment:“trash yoga”), Lorise continued to feel  sorry for herself, even though the unhoused/ homeless performance experiment was basically her idea, and so sang this spontaneous reverie to express, examine, and share with James the part of herself that sought to bring humor to the part of herself grieving over losing touch with relationships that had previously brought a great sense of confidence, security, nourishment, and guidance!

This song is the 5th in a sequence of 6 songs recorded spontaneously that day, and references The Sorcerers Crossing by Taisha Alebar (mentored by famed anthropologist Carlos Castaneda, author of The Art of Dreaming) and the idea that part of the etheric body or “double” explores dimensions of reality the physical body is in the process of preparing for.

During their time traveling, and sleeping outside in Maui, Lorise and James were blessed by The Shops of Wailea, an upscale outdoor shopping complex, with  toilets, sink amenities, and seating areas (that reminded Lorise of interior design magazines she’d previously read), amongst tall trees with plug-in’s near the seats to charge their iPhone 11 for recording. Though she and James were careful to patronize the Island Gourmet Market, thanks in part to SNAP benefits accepted there, they sometimes preferred to sit in the grass of the south parking lot in a cool spot shaded with large blossoming  trees, while the phone charged. The vibes there were more relaxed than the shopping center that attracted a large amount of tourists visiting the nearby resorts, and on the day this song was recorded, Lorise continued to address her previous patterns of depression and self-destructive isolation by improvising this song that was inspired by how much James loved a previous song she’d recorded (The Most Beautiful Man in The World) that begins with the same lyrics, and spontaneously references the bestselling book by James Redfield, The Celestine Prophecy; Egyptian mythology, and other spiritual ideas that affirm the uniqueness of their journey.

On the first of August, in this spontaneously recorded exploration of the voice as an instrument, Lorise and James explore the Hawaiian word Shaka and sound as a form of self-actualization to balance their ability to adapt to the particularly hot summer weather while living outdoors in Maui.

There was a time when Danièle Lorise Watts was known for her work as an actress, most notably as “Coco” in Quentin Tarantino’s Academy-Award winning film, Django Unchained, as Angela Mullein on the Emmy winning show Weeds, as world renowned comedian Martin Lawrence’s onscreen daughter in FX’s Kelsey Grammar produced TV show, Partners, and often recognized for playing Brian Jordan Alvarez’s sister in a viral YouTube break-out hit, based on their actual friendships that led to Alvarez creating and starring in the generation defining Disney plus show, English Teacher. Brian James Lucas was known for his work as an award-wining culinary artist (Chef BeLive), flavor expert, events producer, and influencer in the global gourmet raw vegan, wellness, and longevity movements. An internationally reported news story that spawned out of the two sharing fully clothed physical affection in their car, and subsequent 7 years of public sex-therapy shows (with The Dr. Susan Block Institute for The Erotic Arts and Sciences, also featured on VICE TV) has moved them to express themselves on SoundCloud through iPhone voice memos of spontaneous songs, odes, conversations, and stories as a way to deconstruct and become aware of the diverse sonic influences and programs that have guided their lives. The songs recorded in the State of Hawai’i coincided with a therapeutic regression and individuation unhoused performance art experiment, that also served as a functional wedding ceremony, and led to the creation of the world’s first spontaneously created docufiction musical that duo is in the process of making available for free online.
