Composed by Thomas Tallis around 1575,  this is one of the very last pieces, if not the last, he wrote. Like his student William Byrd this motet contains thinly veiled references to priests weeping, a common image used by the recusant Catholic community in late 16th Century Tudor England.

Thomas Tallis - Salvator Mundi II

Likely composed for Christmas celebrations at the court of Mary I and Philp of Spain in 1553. The voicing suggests that Tallis intended it for the combined forces of the Spanish and English Chapels Royal.
