a short time ago, on the Isle of VVyn,
there lived a people of familiar kin.
their eyes shone bright like the moon in the night,
and their skin was fair, a dazzling white.
they lived in a town of stone and timber,
with blazing hearths in the deep cold of winter.
rare would they ever conduct an affair,
away from the bosom of brotherly care.

one fateful morning, a stranger arrived,
washed up on the shore, beaten and starved.
a girl lived nearby, and happened to find,
and hastened to see if this man was alive.
his skin seemed so charred, his hair dark and coarse,
and his eyes were like wells dug deep in the forest.
she called for help and brought him inside,
to nurse back his health from the brink of demise.

when the man regained life, the VVynians took mind,
they have never seen a man of his kind.
he spoke in strange mouthings, none could comprehend,
but with gestures he signalled that he wasn't the end.
the next morning on the beach, a ship could be seen,
headed towards the Isle of VVyn.
they anchored on shore, and emerged from their vessel,
and marched onto land where the people had assembled.

the VVynians were kind, though a few were suspicious,
that trouble could come should these strangers prove vicious.
but the VVynians were people who wanted to learn,
and curiosity proved to outweigh the concern.
the newfolk dazzled them with foreign treasure;
they brought with them bounties of gold without measure.
they plead to stay, that they would keep peace between them,
and the natives obliged to welcome these pilgrims.

after some months, tensions had arisen,
a few of the newfolk had been thrown in prison.
trials ensued, and the natives judged quite fairly,
yet the strangers insisted their crimes weren't voluntary.
bread snatched here and there, a brawl in the marketplace,
before long these foreigners had outlasted their grace.
they begged however "be kind, have we not children like you?"
"if you could not feed them, what means would you turn to?"

this pattern seldom ceased, but only grew more severe,
the natives hid their children if "they" were ever near.
the foreigners went about in a frightening manner,
the once peaceful town was now rife with terror.
at the death of a VVynian girl, the last tie was broken,
the angry natives were set on restoring their haven.
the VVynians then banded to implore them "begone",
but the newfolk's number made them feel strong.

they apologised and said they'd be-gone by next day,
but they resolved in indignance to make their hosts pay.
at nightfall they dispersed with swords and cloaks,
and slaughtered all they could find of the VVynian folk.
they burnt down the houses, flattened the yields,
set ablaze the bodies in the middle of the fields.
anything of value they pillaged without mercy,
the flesh of the young they feasted on merrily.

the town was now leveled, the streets silent and stained.
no voices could be heard where the children once played.
the foreigners moved onwards, to find another place,
like a pack of beasts with a person-like face.
the Isle was lifeless, abandoned by all.
the people of VVyn became but a tale.
in the school of the town, the one thing left standing,
a sculpture stood built by the children who saw everything.

a crude foreign girl, dressed in rags,
sat on a hillside covered in grass.
a little lamb with her sat there beside,
behind them a barbed fence to keep them inside.
but if you looked closely, into their eyes,
you would see they're identical, tortured and wide.
beneath the sculpture, a small inscription written:
"what difference is there? are they even human?"
