Whisky for the Astronauts is made up of songs that were written over the past 3 or 4 years, purely for fun. These songs were then recorded and later mixed in glorious 5.1 surround format as well as in stereo format as the basis for George Markakis’s dissertation. Now, this record is available to all.

We humbly thank everyone who helped make this record possible. We humbly thank all our friends (and not) who inspired us to write songs about them and lead better lives.

This track is taken from the first record of a series of improvised music meetings that take place in various locations & countries. All the sessions are recorded live and edited to albums which are then released through our platform. The proceeds from these records will be donated to a charity or, where possible, directly to people in need. 

The first record (vol.1) was recorded live on stereo in Meanwood, Leeds, UK in October 2017. 

This record is available for free, or Pay As You Feel. All the proceeds will be donated to the families affected by the wildfires in Mati, Attica, Greece.

After their first release 'First Sessions', AMKA changed musical direction and scaled-down to a trio in order to compose as a band.
The 'Yellow Yard' EP is the first outcome of this experimentation process and was recorded in trio format with Petr Agapov on drums, Dimitris Koulentianos on bass & effects and Dimitris Kalamaras on guitar & effects.

Yellow Yard

AMKA - Two Fifteen

A crucial part of the shamanistic traditions found in mesoamerican folklore is the concept of nagualism, i.e. the belief that a certain human being, called nagual, has the power to shapeshift into an animal form. “Jaguar” is a part of a composition cycle inspired by this concept, describing in an abstract yet frugal way the transformation into jaguar, the sacred animal of the Aztecs, traditionally said to evoke virtue and strength.

Στη μεσοαμερικάνικη λαογραφία απαντάται η -στενά συνδεδεμένη με σαμανιστικές πρακτικές- πεποίηθηση του ναγουαλισμού (nagualism), σύμφωνα με την οποία ορισμένοι άνθρωποι διαθέτουν την ικανότητα να μεταμορφωθούν κατά βούληση σε ζώο. Ο “Ιαγουάρος”, μέρος ενός κύκλου συνθέσεων εμπνευσμένου από την παραπάνω έννοια, αποπειράται να περιγράψει με αφηρημένο και λιτό τρόπο την μεταμόρφωση ανθρώπου σε ιαγουάρο, ένα απο τα ιερά ζώα των αζτέκων, παραδοσιακά συνδεδεμένο με την αρετή και τη δύναμη.

Thomas Meleteas - Jaguar / Ιαγουάρος

An improvising electric guitar duo consisting of Gonçalo Oliveira and James Alexandropoulos-McEwan explores the unrepeatable and difficult to control aspects of the electric guitar, in sounds that arise unexpectedly from the complexity of the guitar’s electronic circuitry, to big layerings of sonic textures, to subtle microtonal clashing chords.

Interacting with the performative visuals of Felix Bodin, using his self-designed visual instrument consisting of projections reverberated through the performance space with the use of a malleable mirrored surface which spreads, distorts or focuses digitally generated patterns into unique and dazzling light and projection shows. Sometimes delicate and beautifully serene, other times erratic, unpredictable and exciting.

[[The original sessions for the album took place in June 2018 under the name Flowers/Ghosts when the group consisted only of Gonçalo and James. Since then, the album has been slowly refined to take its current final form]]

ORI is a trio that was formed in 2014 by Kimonas Vlachakis (guitar), Manolis Daskalakis-Lemos (drums and vocals), and Dimitris Koulentianos (bass). The sound is set up and constructed by sound engineer, Yiotis Paraskevaidis, their permanent partner. Their music is hard to describe; however, they undoubtedly play rock in a hard but delicate way, aggressively and melodically, singing in a variety of languages and dialects. Their first album was due to be released in Spring 2018, but was not.
Now, it’s finally here!

Polyscope is a music community based in Athens, Greece.
 
Convinced that the world doesn’t need another independent record label, Polyscope was initiated by Giorgos Kravvaritis & Pantelis Pilavios as a home for their own music and projects as well as a medium through which artists they admire have the freedom to release music in whatever way they deem necessary. 
 
The community aims to offer a platform to promote artists’ recordings through its growing network, together with an alternative way of releasing music independently. By not bending under specific genre umbrellas and with no commercially motivated compromises, its releases span from punk to free jazz, from ambient and drone to contemporary traditional, to noise rock and live electronic. All profits from the releases are directed to the respective artists, and at times are collectively donated to charities and non-governmental organisations.
 
Polyscope is not a record label. It is a medium for self-releasing music digitally and occasionally physically. It embraces total artistic freedom, cherishes the network it creates and acts as an incubator for upcoming artists to grow, release and perform new material and for disbanded projects to archive or re-issue their music.

Created honestly and with a punk attitude, motivated by the vision of being a space for new ideas to form and be presented without being dictated by profit.
