Some years ago, Dr. Seltsam established a workgroup with the codename Pon de Panda. You see, while the Doctor spends most of his time on world domination and hedonism, he also works on some good causes of his choosing. Worried his favorite animal would go extinct, he funded research on improving the fertility of the giant panda. 
Combining their expertise in music, medicine and design, Bablo and Geert Jan examined what influences make a panda put down his bamboo stick and get jiggy with it. It turned out giant pandas go crazy for slow, rhythmic, deep and melancholic music! So Bablo and Geert Jan went straight to work to make sounds that set the mood for making panda babies. The magnificent results are displayed as own productions on their Soundcloud page. 
For this week's Private Files, Pon De Panda selected a wide array of their inspirations. From deep classics to nostalgic blues sounds, peppered with some of their own work.

Delight has arisen from a transitional time in the life of Pon de Panda. It takes you from station to station, never reaching the end of the line.

Pon de Panda - Delight

Three weeks until his Grand Experiment and the search for musical subject matter has begun. 
Dr. Seltsam’s most ambitious researcher, Bablo, was yearning to make Dr. Seltsam’s guinea pigs dance to his newly acquired vinyl records. For months he holed himself up in his dusty laboratory, searching for the correct composition of the black gold as a true auditory alchemist. By pitching up one recording, turning down another and adding more elements he was trying to tone the separate frequencies and mix the ingredients together in one unrelenting groove. 
There was only one drawback that made Bablo a bit moody; the dusty laboratory made him sneeze in the midst of every perfect transition he was making. Frustrated, he opened the window, but instantly the pollen filled spring breeze tickled his nostrils and made him sneeze even more violently. The whole black gold experiment was contaminated; lumps of mucus phlegm were everywhere. 
Undefeated, the researcher tested his new results. Content with his observations because he knew this would stand the scrutiny of the doctors peer-review, he took an empty test tube and, in big capital letters, wrote 'Hay Fever House'.

After spending many musical hours together in dr. Seltsam's fallout shelter, Pon de Panda and Etcha decided it was time to bundle their forces to reach out to the world with a Seltsam message. The result is a song that seamlessly combines the pop sensibilities of Pon de Panda with the electronic production skills of Etcha.
It's an honest track that starts off with more than a nod to the eighties and is joined by a light tickling acid synth line before it dissipates into the stars. An uplifting piece of music equally suited for the dancefloor and the alternative pop charts which breathes one message: let's all toast to love!

In the vein of the cosmic norwegian disco pioneers, Powel takes the original further into hyperspace. Slowing down the pace, building on a discoish groove and adding big pad chords to give it this "cosmic flight" feeling.

To keep finding the aural pleasures one has to dive deep into the realms of the acoustic universe. Re-emerging with fresh sounding black gold takes years of training. In order to produce a presentable concoction he had to stir in various components and balance functionality with musicality.
