Boneyard

Since 2008, this Minneapolis-based septet has been making collective, collaborative music built on vivid and eclectic extremes—a sultry vocal on a clever tune, or a sweeping classical gesture followed by sounds that echo the low dark muttering of those who live secretly.  In addition to their three studio albums, they also write and perform live original scores for film and theater projects, including both classic silent movies and modern abstract pieces by contemporary filmmakers and video artists.  Orchestrated by a variety of instruments including cello, accordion, acoustic and electric guitars, piano, upright bass, mandolin, banjo, vocals; The Poor Nobodys perform locally and tour regionally.

Working with cinematic images has been a natural fit, as their patient and contemplative songs leave time and room enough for a listener to take an imaginative trek across a changing countryside; and scoring for the dramatic images of silent film has influenced the evolution of their sound, leading to bolder choices and a deeper sense of where both playful irony and soulfulness can go.
