I will perform this series throughout the year, with a live-video and a release of each track.

The next Feuilleton podcast episode is coming from @doreen_reach. Doreen is a true secret tip amongst German deejays. Through her apprenticeship at Freebase Recordstore in Frankfurt she started collecting records. Inspired by ones like Heiko MSO (RIP), Zip, Ricardo Villalobos and Arpiar, she came to the club sound she likes most. Having played at Robert Johnson, Tresor, Tanzhaus West, Silbergold and Galerie Kurzweil, she is also a vital part of the Underground Quality family. Together with Jus-Ed, she hosted the ''Underground Quality Dance Party'' in Offenbach and Frankfurt before she moved to Berlin in 2020 where she is working at HHV Records. In 2022 she started her very own new project ''Reach House'' - a platform for music, dance and communication, a safe space for likeminded music lovers to connect.

For this month's episode of our podcast series, we are thrilled to invite Berlin based talent Iron Curtis to serve you one hour of finest grooves. 

On the continent of electronic music, Johannes Paluka has travelled far and wide, collapsing musical boundaries with enviable ease. Under the moniker of Iron Curtis, the Berlin-based creates his complex, hauntingly beautiful productions from a range of eclectic styles and influences. Be it House, Acid or soulful Techno – his sound moves in the equilibrium of reduced, but never minimal. Flashes of kitsch brighten the dark universe of Iron Curtis, but fail to interfere with the melancholy subtext. As far as leftfield electronic music is concerned and as long as he sees a chance to break a few genre rules here or there, Iron Curtis is brimming with ideas.

Making his debut in 2008 with an EP on Hamburg’s beloved Mirau, he made even more good impressions that year with a contribution to the Deetron’s Fuse. Apart from releasing House on labels like Office, Retreat or Smallville, Paluka runs the project Achterbahn D'Amour with his longtime friend Jool aka Edit Piafra. Here, they focus on Acid-infused techno, electrifying audiences with their shows and releases on L.A.-based Acid Test imprint. His latest project is called Moon – a collaboration with Johannes Albert from Frank Music, where the two friends exhibit their love for classic Electro and stripped down Techno.

But wherever his musical interests take him, Iron Curtis will always be adding a little soul in his compositions. This is the magic thread that runs through all of his productions and it is what Iron Curtis transfers from his releases to his live gigs as well. As a DJ, he is as inspired and versatile as he is a producer, skilfully taking the dancefloor into the deep and diverse corners of modern dance music.

Portable AKA Bodycode has been in motion his whole life—growing up in South Africa, coming of age in London, decamping to Lisbon and finally settling in Berlin—and his deeply syncopated brand of electronic dance music has evolved with every step of the journey. 

His formative years were spent in an impoverished Cape Town township ironically tagged “Beverly Hills”, and to the backbeat of the first wave of Chicago house records he emerged out of the ruins of a post-apartheid South Africa. Inspired musically, yet frustrated geographically, he relocated to London in 1997.

In London, he  began recording as Portable, the experimental, atmospheric project that acts a living link between the indigenous sounds of his youth, and those first records whose futuristic aesthetic broadened his horizons. He founded the Süd Electronic label with his partner Lerato and released a string of 12" releases. A succession of full-length albums followed - Cycling and Futuristic Experiments #005 on Background, Version on ~scape records, and the Powers of Ten for Süd Electronic in 2007. A rich and expansive record, Powers of Ten further explored his African heritage through a new lexicon of sonic influences, acquired from his time in Portugal.

Upon moving to Lisbon, he conceived of Bodycode, a more dancefloor-centric project that complements Portable’s headier textures with a more body-moving aesthetic.  As Bodycode, he  harnesses his desire to “unlock the psyche via the body,” layering tech-funk with wisps of melody, heady effects, and a liberal wash of otherworldly vocal samples. Somewhere between the beats for the body and melody for the soul, Abrahams believes, lies the Bodycode. The result was Bodycode’s first full-length, The Conservation of Electric Charge, a whirlwind of percussive, multi-layered techno released on Spectral Sound in 2006. After a three-year absence, Abrahams resurrected the moniker for second Spectral full-length, 2009’s Immune, an intricately textured album of vocal-laced house. “I just felt it a good time for a warm, nurturing aesthetic,” says Abrahams of Bodycode’s shift in tone, “We need that right now.”
