"Detroit Part II" is a new single by Shigeto. "Detroit Part II" is a sonic homecoming four years in the making, a journey through the history of Detroit's rich musical legacy and into the heart of House. 

Following Saginaw's life of performing jazz, it is only fitting that "Detroit Part II" should evolve out of a jazz gig.  "I was putting together a show at the DSO with a live band. The event was at capacity. Marcus (Elliot) couldn't get in. 30 minutes before the show, (Bassist) Josef (Deas) starts texting Marcus, and we have the idea to get Marcus in–by playing with us," Zach Saginaw said. The drop-in of a live saxophonist, unplanned, was a beautiful moment. "Marcus literally breathes life into the song."

The a-side, "Detroit Part II", feels like a neighborhood party or an evening on the front porch. "Detroit Part II" features live, swinging percussion, sultry, dark vocals, a fat Juno bass line and the summertime warmth of a tenor saxophone.

If "Detroit Part II" is an early summertime evening, the b-side's "I94 Mix" sounds like 4 a.m. at an after hours rave. Dubbier, funkier and heavier, the saxophone becomes muted and sampled, with feverish swells boiling to the surface. The bass line becomes hypnotic; shakers guide every movement and beat.

If "Detroit Part II" starts the party, the "I94 Mix" ends it.

Pablo R. Ruiz was born in Chile and moved to southwest Detroit in 1999. He played drums in various hardcore punk bands throughout high school. DEMF and raves cultivated an interest in dance music that Pablo brought with him when he moved back to Chile in 2006. He began producing and DJing in underground clubs around Santiago. In 2016 Pablo returned to Detroit, purchased more gear and began producing a new body of work, all recorded straight to tape. This is our selection of the fruits of his labor.

Todd Osborn. For many, the name conjures up myths, tall tales told within the world of electronic music. Todd: makes hovercrafts; repairs motorcycles out of his garage; fixes vintage jukeboxes; creates handmade components for espresso machines; flies fighter jets; is a Lego expert, owns a record label with his son that releases music by Aphex Twin, Madlib and Underground Resistance; has a stunning collection of rare whiskeys. True? All of it, of course.

Reviewing a CV of the varied styles and sounds of Todd Osborn is like a museum-grade survey of records from electronic music's ultimate outsider artist. Yet, Todd Osborn has never been outside. From releasing jungle on Rephlex with Tadd Mullinix as Soundmurderer & SK-1 to house and jaking club music as Osborne on Ghostly International, to bright, chiptuned boogie as Superstructure, Todd Osborn has done it all. From there? We haven't yet scratched the surface.

For over 20 years, Todd Osborn has been a permanent fixture in music, touring internationally at music festivals, warehouse raves, gabber parties in fields to giving lectures at Red Bull Music Academy and in turn hosting the most diverse programme on Red Bull Radio. "Ambget"
"Ambget" is a hypnotizing, downtempo techno track, quite possibly the murkiest song in the Osborn canon. Moving at a sturdy 105bpm, "Ambget" slinks with a hushed demeanor. Sweaty and ominous, "Ambget" feels like walking out of the rave at sunrise in mid-November. Is it no longer cool to compare something to trip hop? Would it be better to liken "Ambget" something newer, like the palette painted by Andy Stott's releases on Modern Love? One of the oldest tracks in Todd Osborn's archive, "Ambget" was recorded in 1997, direct to tape.

S Transporter is Izaak S and Ryan Spencer, a pan-American duo of exact origins unknown. With roots jetsetting to and from Detroit & San Francisco, the project is somewhere around 4 years old, though no one remembers exactly when it started. Conceptualized between DJ gigs & throwing raves, the songs were initially demoed in Ryan's bedroom and forgotten about, until Ryan played them at his weekly, Monday Is The New Monday (co-founded with PGS' Ben & Zach). Immediately, the songs burst with new life into their ears, with requests to hear more. In a tale every creative can relate to, Ryan, simply, didn't know if they were good. We found them extraordinary. 

What followed were several months of phone calls, Facetimes, iMessages, and group texts, edits & additional recording sessions, in Ryan's apartment in Southwest Detroit, Izaak's in SF, and the Portage Garage in Hamtramck. The songs showcase a sound more influenced by the genre-collisions featured at MITNM, from krautrock, boogie, trance, to acid and house, in a way other PGS releases have hinted at, but never fully expressed. 

S Transporter is the name of the EP, the project, and all four songs. A maximalist sound with a minimalist presentation, naming the songs - so many years after their inception - would, perhaps, take away from the feeling that struck all three of us the first time we heard them on a club-grade sound system. 

Izaak S is a San Francisco resident and DJ from the Loveshadow dance collective. 

Ryan Spencer is a Detroit resident, DJ, co-founder of Monday Is The New Monday, and is a member of Freakish Pleasures. 

"S Transporter 1" 
Uptempo, backspin-laden electro/acid with a winding 303 bassline that reveals itself slowly over the pulsing breakbeat backbone. Immersive, haunting and enchanting. 

"S Transporter 2" 
Downtempo electro. Slap bass. Heavy boogie. Sensual vocals reminiscent of early Chris N Cosey carry you through this industrial funk heater. Heavy synth lines and rhythmic grooving guitar that is club-ready for dance floors of all kinds. 

"S Transporter 3" 
A fast paced, percussion forward adventure with balaphone melodies and bending synth pads. Spoken words guide the journey, arriving at a movement inducing Juno ascension that dances into a calm end. 

"S Transporter 4" 
Encompassing the seemingly disjointed, individualistic styles of S Transporter 1-3, ‘4’ combines elements of the entire release into one final gesture. ‘4’ could be Byrne/Eno ("Regiment"), but it's something else - the product of decades of dance music history, distilled by two musicians & DJs into one song

PGS 011 comes to us from Gustav Brovold, an essential player in Detroit's latest wave of underground electronic music. His début EP, "Hyperbolic Space" is the first release solely dedicated to the local legend, with influences ranging from 90s UK rave, apocalyptic techno, and bright, post-Drexciyan electro. Since the late-aughts, Brovold has been a fixture of Detroit's dance community; first as a member of Randy Chabot's Deastro project, and then a pillar of the after-hours scene through raves with the ADULT Contemporary collective, all the while sprinkling in rare, must-see all-hardware-based live shows around the city. Moments of brilliance have boiled over the surface globally, with appearances on Don't Be Afraid as Radio Brovold in 2015, the Detroit Electronic Quarterly's "DEQ Vol. 7" in 2016, and on the punishing opener of PGS 009's with "Temple of the Circuit" earlier this year.

Following a live show at Detroit's Donovan's Pub in late 2018, Zach (Shigeto) came to the obvious realization–this music is the reason why we started PGS, and needed to release the music to a wider audience. Brovold handed PGS a flash drive with hours of completed music, a gold mine in bits and bites. "Hyperbolic Space" represents a cohesive sampling of the mountain of tracks from Brovold's vaults, propelling PGS into the next decade.  Play it in your car, or at unauthorized raves, and dance to the airwaves of Radio Brovold.

"Oakland Ave"
The vibes of forgotten 90s raves: UK techno made with digital synths, resampled as a low-bitrate soundtrack for the night time level of a PlayStation racing game. Building, dancing hi-hats, slow building chord stabs, dubby techno feels. A triumphant finish, 1st place in fifth gear. (*If you play this at 45rpm, you can Jit).

"CMND"
Tastefully dynamic, a 4am second wind of undulating big room house & electro. The slow build, the rise – mixable on the dance floor, and for home listening, a forewarning to the B side–

"Prometheus"
Murderous. In an era of safe, ready-made, and (often) generic dance music made for dance floors regardless of time, era, or location, Prometheus packs a wallop. Electro from the depths of Dante's Inferno, the terror inducing intro bleeds into beats reminiscent of distorted hits of Ghetto Tech played on Detroit drive time radio through a broken speaker.

"SMC2"
Closing "Hyperbolic Space" is the bright-but-sinister electro of "SMC2", with wobbly, alternating dry/wet basslines. With influence from the decades of dark dance music behind it, "SMC2" is a nod to where we are in 2019: post-Dopplereffekt, with allusions to the early productions of Kode9 and The Spaceape.

Have you ever felt like you didn't belong at the rave? Felt out of place? Like we are all puppets under the control of the puppet master? Impish Desires addresses feelings many club goers have, but, maybe don't talk about. Sinister and frustrated music, that's ready 2 jak and slaps the subs. Six minutes and 48 seconds of angry, alienated body music. The cherry on top is a flute solo by Ji Hoon to send you deeper into the rabbit hole.
