Marlene Dixon, a popular assistant professor in human development and sociology at the Univeristy of Chicago and later at McGill University. The Univeristy of Chicago decided not to rehire her and students protested for 16 days. SUMMARY: The 1st lecture surveys the important scientific discoveries that have been made since 1945 and their impact on society.  The 2nd lecture continues this discussion and points out that these discoveries are inconsistent with the present-day nation-state.  Suggests that the opportunity to establish space colonies will only be available for the next thirty years and that it should be capitalized upon.

Garrett Moon and his brother Dustin started Res Communis, a design collective, and began construction of the Commons.  Garrett holds a degree in Computer Science from Western Washington University, and a degree in Sustainable Design in Architecture and Planning from Fairhaven College.

Rap: Leon Brock on student government, voter apathy, and a new student constitution. Somewhat satirical proposal to revise student governance based on factional arguing and voter apathy. Rap: Harold Williams, PSU Educational Center Director, on Apollo 13's "three cool cats" traveling in space while war is waged and soldiers die in Vietnam. Rap: Sound and loudness in downtown Portland. Rap-In Awards. Interview: Staff Reporter for the Oregonian on Middle Eastern politics: "Jordan Today."

PSU Campus Rap-In #24, May 3, 1970

Willie Mae Hart was interviewed at her home in Portland, Oregon, on February 25, 2010, by Heather Burmeister and Lisa Donnelly.

Willie Mae Hart was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on April 4, 1915. Determined to protect her newborn son from racial violence in the South, she relocated first to California and then to Portland, Oregon in 1939, where she lived the rest of her life.

During World War II, she worked in the Kaiser shipyards on Swan Island, and after the war she and her husband operated Portland’s first Black-owned taxicab company. During the Vanport Flood of May 1948, they used their cabs to provide free transportation to Vanport residents fleeing the devastation.

After the Harts sold the taxicab company, Willie Mae fulfilled her lifelong ambition to work in medicine by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She joined the NAACP in 1940 and was involved in civil rights and social justice organizations including the Urban League of Portland, the Council of Negro Women, and Women in Community Service throughout her life.

During her interview, Hart discusses moments in Oregon history such as the Vanport Flood, the debate over the Public Accommodations Act, and John F. Kennedy's campaign visit to Portland in 1960, where she met the candidate at an event she had organized.

(The interview begins as Hart is discussing pictures of a trip to China where she visited the Great Wall. She is pointing to a picture of herself with a young Chinese man and talking about when the photo was taken.)
