SUMMARY: Traces the history of feminism in the United States through the development of the women's liberation movement in the late 1960's.  Claims that the oldest form of human exploitation is that of women by men.

Marlene Dixon, a popular assistant professor in human development and sociology at the Univeristy of Chicago and later at McGill University. The Univeristy of Chicago decided not to rehire her and students protested for 16 days. Conservationist Jim Labbe worked as the Watershed Council Coordinator before joining the Portland Audubon Society. He represents Audubon, advocating for local and regional natural resource policies throughout the Portland-Metro area. He has also served on the advisory board of Depave.org and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council. He earned a BA in History from Reed College, and a MS in Physical Geography from Portland State University. In March of 2005 he was awarded the Coalition for a Livable Future's Robert L. Liberty Regional Leadership Award.

Bernard Smith owns and operates Full of Life Farm in St. Paul, Oregon. He grew up on the farm, and left it after high school. He earned a BA in Finance from Oregon State University, and a MBA from Santa Clara College. He went on to work in finance for Charles Schwab in San Francisco. After hearing a lecture on nutrition by Dr. Thomas Cowan, MD, Bernard Smith and his wife, Michelle, returned to the farm in 2003 to raise grass-fed meat.

PSU Campus Rap-In #24, May 3, 1970

Willie Mae Hart was interviewed at her home in Portland, Oregon, on February 25, 2010, by Heather Burmeister and Lisa Donnelly.

Willie Mae Hart was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on April 4, 1915. Determined to protect her newborn son from racial violence in the South, she relocated first to California and then to Portland, Oregon in 1939, where she lived the rest of her life.

During World War II, she worked in the Kaiser shipyards on Swan Island, and after the war she and her husband operated Portland’s first Black-owned taxicab company. During the Vanport Flood of May 1948, they used their cabs to provide free transportation to Vanport residents fleeing the devastation.

After the Harts sold the taxicab company, Willie Mae fulfilled her lifelong ambition to work in medicine by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She joined the NAACP in 1940 and was involved in civil rights and social justice organizations including the Urban League of Portland, the Council of Negro Women, and Women in Community Service throughout her life.

During her interview, Hart discusses moments in Oregon history such as the Vanport Flood, the debate over the Public Accommodations Act, and John F. Kennedy's campaign visit to Portland in 1960, where she met the candidate at an event she had organized.

(The interview begins as Hart is discussing pictures of a trip to China where she visited the Great Wall. She is pointing to a picture of herself with a young Chinese man and talking about when the photo was taken.)
