As the first katharsis release of 2022, we present you the debut EP “Distance” by  Rome-based artist chantssss. This release frames a deep introspection for the listener by exhibiting a granular sound collage based mainly on aquatic sounds but also on solid objects broken up to tiny pieces until they transform into a liquid semi-percussive state. 

Throughout the four tracks of the EP, we are enveloped by a transforming layer of fluid noise, that momentarily resembles the slithering of a snake, which is also graphicly represented by the artist alias. This is no coincidence, as the artist is connected to this theme by their experience of being bitten by a viper while capturing aquatic field recordings in the mountains.

On “Distance”, chantssss premieres his artistic expression by employing intertwining multi-sensory atmospheres of nature combined with generative synthesis and field recordings. The single “Your Next Online Healing” will be premiered on the 3rd of February, a week before the full EP releases on February 10th.

Posh isolation are proud to present ”Dora”, the first album by the Ribbons. Ribbons is a duo of Polish composer Stefan Weglowski and Danish experimental musician Christian Stadsgaard. ”Dora” is a collage of lo-fi digitalism: sampled internet glitches from the matrix wasteland, at times brutal and at times soft and humane, like voices sharing bygone memories. Dora in its abruptness constructs an erratic sound universe, where patches of remotely resonant chants, as if intercepted from a broken radio, entwine with elaborate loop manipulations, hypnotizing rhythms and street noise. Weglowski and Stadsgaard created a soundtrack for blinddates in Fortnight, with a pinch of paranoia, dark humor, a mockery of a new world dystopia.

Asma Maroof, Patrick Belaga and Tapiwa Svosve share 'The Stranger', the first single from the upcoming full-length album 'The Sport of Love' out via PAN on May 26th.

On The Sport of Love, seasoned collaborators Asma Maroof, Patrick Belaga and Tapiwa Svosve consider the language, competition and contradiction of modern romance: its yearning, incomprehensible vastness and the inevitable darkness and fleeting fragility. For the trio, love is the emotion that propels all of us whether we acknowledge it or not, and its expression can be realized in many forms.

Everything comes into sharp focus on the album's lengthy central piece 'The Stranger', that brings in additional instrumentation from harpist Ayha Simone and percussionist Mathieu Edward. The three friends saw this particular composition as a journey within itself, charting the anxiety, harmony and uncertainty of love. Shifting from gooey freeform jazz into gurgling noise and bleak ambient drone, it connects the dots between Dorothy Ashby, Arve Henriksen, Jon Hassell and Hildur Guðnadóttir while voyaging into parts unknown. It's a finale of sorts that wrestles with the complexity of the album's themes, returning to earlier refrains and prolonging their tension.

For her second release on Northern Electronics, Vallmo (appellation of Melina Åkerman Kvie) strengthens her proficiency towards an electronic elevation with each and every track being a crevice offering kaleidoscopic gleams into a poetic narrative extracted from the slightly auto tuned yet softly metallic voice. What Virgil is to Dante, the piano is to the listener: a fragmented leitmotif and a guiding cicerone into the nimbus that is 'Othem'.
Dual in nature, the album comprises seamless transitions between divergent idioms, figuratively as well as literally. A false dichotomy conveying the opposing pairs tender and bold, distinct but evading and with a direction every so often forward as inward. 'Othem' is an opus in equal parts melancholy, magic and mimesis.
