The next guest of our ethereal mixes series is Lyudmila Severtseva fka My Cruelty, the multi-genre DJ and producer from St. Petersburg. Earlier she released the LP “The Secret Weapon” following up with EPs “My Promises” and “The Last Hour of the Night”.

Besides, Lyudmila is the author of the program "Harddance With Us" on the Hong Kong radio HKCR. Also this fall, her album “Metasilence” is scheduled to be released on the Gin&Platonic label.

Kalione is the soul of our label and community — Beatriz , as well as its creator. The music that Kalione creates as a producer and DJ is always about something emotional, sublime and striving to the Creator. During the several years that we have been watching the ascent of this bright star, we have been discovering the amazing world of its multi-genre selection, which consists of an angelic break beat, ambient, pop music mashups and a guitar drone.

Her mixes were played on the airwaves of Bristol 1020.Radio and on Hong Kong Community Radio. For the collaborative broadcast with TESTFM Natasha has prepared an experimental set in which we hear a lot of new and multi-genre music, which we can describe as ethereal wave. We took Fritz to Limerick Forest in Oxford Station, Ontario, Canada for an afternoon to enjoy some peace and quiet. Here's what he heard in the 15 minutes or so we left him by himself.

This is a true 3D binaural audio soundscape, created with the Neumann KU 100 dummy head microphone. Listen with headphones and turn the volume up just until the ambient sound seems natural (note, the gusts of wind did get fairly strong at times that day). 

Limerick Woods - binaural forest soundscape

Split release by Piper Spray and Lena Tsibizova — two musicians whose sound can be described as bedroom electronics or low-fi ambient. Lena and Piper Spray are also members of the Air Krew collective along with their third bandmate Sergey Podluzhny, who is on mastering duties for this record.

Following the first track’s title, the album begins with a nostalgic synthesizer melody which pours on the listener like rays of the midday sun, bringing forward recollections of a pleasant half-forgotten time. However, memory not only holds the serene and nostalgic — it can also evoke painful and anxious images or even mislead its carrier by synthesizing new details and meanings.

The album seems to be transforming in a similar pattern. Arrhythmic beats, glitchy effects and faint voices — like spores of the unconsciousness that break through shallow sleep and fill the gaps in memory — gradually come forward, taking over the melodic element. By the second half of the record, the naive nostalgia disintegrates into distant echoes and the sound takes the form of a collage which almost sounds like magnetic tape experiments.

Despite the difference in tone and techniques, the two tracks here are not antagonists. They complement each other, presenting memory mechanisms and the experience of acute reflection in different colors.
