Dold arrives on Blue Hour Music

The Swedish producer, real name Patrik Eriksson, will debut on Luke Standing’s Blue Hour Music outlet in early November this year - the first new artist to be invited onto the growing platform. 

In recent years, Standing has carefully expanded his label to include not only a vast catalogue of original music, but a high profile remix series - and more recently collaborative work as Tracing Xircles. 

Dold’s arrival marks the 11th release from the label, and the young Swedish talent - who runs his own imprint Arsenik alongside fellow producer Kuf, offers up a stunning collection of dance floor recordings that zero in perfectly on the label’s raison d’être. 

Express Route is the result of several weeks of close dialogue between artist & label - with the end product finalised alongside Standing in his Berlin studio. A captivating, Breakbeat driven exploration of retro-futuristic dance music, the recordings fit neatly into the label’s well defined aesthetic - paying homage to the rich lineage of pan-European dance music, whilst maintaining a sharp, contemporary edge. 

Opener Horizons sets the tone for the work, with emotive synth strings set amongst rolling sequences and high-energy drum programming, whilst Express Route is a perfect example of fast-forward loop Techno. Memories taps neatly into the producer’s penchant for Hardcore - riffing on vintage Rave stabs with a decidedly modern bent. Colliding Worlds ties up the EP, a glorious up-tempo nod to classic IDM & Electro. 

Mature and excellently produced, Dold’s arrival on Blue Hour Music marks a considerable step forward in the label’s development, a fine example of form & function that looks forward within the genre - whilst maintaining that particular approach to production that has bound the label’s discography so well thus far.

The “Second Contact” has taken place and it has been shaped by 30D Records on “Close Encounters 002”, the last chapter of the series. Get ready for the rhythmic seizure of four cuts designed to blast the most demanding dance floor. 

This time, we will found an interplanetary harmonic discourse drawn by Jheal on “Aether”. The modular exquisiteness of Pedro Pina on “KE007” which lets your body float on zero gravity. The straight drum claustrophobia of MSDMNR on “Let You Disappear” turns into an hypnotic path impossible to elude. And finally, the sonic sinuosity of Kastil on “Modal Interplay” that underlies a mesmerizing inertia. 

Contemporary Techno developed by contemporary machinery, defined by the imaginative creative resources of four highly skilled artists. Building on this basis, nothing can go wrong. This is the first long distance trip in our digital branch, showcasing a complete album by Divide who is the alias of Davide from the Italian Syntaxism duo. In this body of work comprised of 13 tracks, you can find almost every colour in the techno sound palette, from the ambient intro Parsec to the equally soundscaped last track Alfa Persei. In between these two relaxed pieces there is a galore of beats and synths.
 
The album grows logically, building up as a whole opera. Punto_ω evolves from a relentless groove spiced with FM bells and resonant bleeps to the solid and slow paced Sfera Celeste, almost dubby, with subtle synth melodies in jazzy scales.

Punto_γ starts to bring things directly to danceable territories in a complex synth crescendo. Followed by Declinazione, with random sequences and tight 909 drum workout. Asymmetrical notes blend to each other giving this chaos feeling that sure dj’s like Jeff Mills will love and play.

Coordinate follows in similar parameters, alien like melodies and arpeggios over a shuffled beat, complex and always evolving. Cassiopea runs in similar parameters, but with a more aggressive sound approach.

Antares introduces distortion and harshness and acts as a powerful tool as well as the twisted Galileo, elastic and gummy but still powerful.

Centaurus boosts the high frequencies in the beginning as the rest of the elements build from below, the kick appears after a few bars putting all groove in context as the mechanical synth lines take over.

Andromeda is made of fat drums and resonant craziness spiced with wise handled distortion and Nube reminds us the best moments of solid nineties techno: hi BPM, well cooked chords and 909.

A great and detailed work that showcases the skills of this producer, aside from the currently degraded pseudo rave invasion. Again music from the future made today.

'Ethereal Sex’ is the 3rd release to come on already acclaimed label Gypsy, whose past releases have been supported by a fierce cast of artists in electronic music. 

In this release, founder and producer Rudi Calcagnile returns under his new alias ‘Clang’, releasing three slabs of underground techno, oscillating between old school fast techno and hard house. The EP draws influence from a spectrum of adjacent styles between late 90s and early 00s techno, taking inspiration from artists like Surgeon, The Advent, Funk D’Void and Dave Angel as well as labels such as Tresor, Soma and Rotation Records. 

A1 ‘Meritocracy’ kicks off the EP with a distorted funky sequence which gradually reveals a bangin' hard house track, pervaded by heavy kicks, aggressive snares and extreme sharpened hi-hats. Massive! 

The sound becomes more industrial and crispy in A2 ‘Under The Sun’. The track immediately caught our attention with a mix of flattened industrial beats, gritty shakers and a funk bassline that create a tremendous tight groove which explodes in a multitude of powerful elements: dirty chord stabs, chopped vocals, snappy 808 snares, electric guitar riffs. Heater! 

On the flip, like in a secret rendezvous, a gentle-syncopated kick introduces us into a higher dimension where vibrant filtered chord stabs and a vigorous bassline come together as two bodies in a whirlwind of passion...until soaring cinematic strings and punchy 909 snares proclaim a sublime state of pleasure that only a selected few would call ‘Ethereal Sex’! 

GYPSY003 is a one time thing, no distribution, no repress.

This week we are hosting Vibriss!

Vibriss is a DJ from Poznań. His first steps as a DJ were taken during pre-pandemic open decks in Projekt Lab. A bag full of techno vinyl remains his weapon of choice on every gig since then. Those include an event organized by Behind The Stage as well.

His style could be described as highly focused on juxtapositioning contrasts together: hard/soft, brutal/emotional or locked-in/breaking grooves.

The mix you're about to hear emerges some of the most melodic tunes from his collection that vividly bring his non-electronic influences straight to your speakers.
