The score for Only Lovers Left Alive -- a collaboration between SQÜRL (Jim Jarmusch, Carter Logan and Shane Stoneback) and Dutch lutenist Jozef Van Wissem -- serves as a reflection of the distinct textures of Detroit and Tangier, bridging ancient and modern sounds, entangled and timeless.

Avant-Baroque lute weaves through twenty-first century guitar grit, heavy back beats, Moroccan percussion, synth bass, field recordings, and numerous sonic effects to create a cinematic tapestry.

Guest vocalist Madeline Follin (Cults) appears on SQÜRL’s syrup soaked re-interpretation of the Wanda Jackson hit “Funnel of Love." Zola Jesus's commanding vocal soars through Van Wissem’s "In Templum Dei." And Yasmine Hamdan’s intimate and evocative “Hal" was recorded on the set of the film and mixed by SQÜRL.

The film and soundtrack album were released worldwide in 2014, and quickly earned the group the Cannes Soundtrack Award from a consortium of film and music critics. In the years that have followed it has remained a favorite of critics and fans alike, who have continued to hunt down the limited vinyl copies in existence.

Film Synopsis:
Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangiers, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?

Nauchnyy Sotrudnik and АУТ are Russian post-punk bands that shared the stage in a damp wooden pre-revolutionary grain warehouse in the center of Rostov back in the mid-10s, where their friendship began. Apparently, from the fact that it was -25 degrees below zero in the warehouse that day, they just now unfrozen and decided to record a joint track. The song refers to classics like Lebanon Hanover and She Past Away. The result was a real emo-post-punk. The combination of the incompatible.

"Live at Freak Valley" comes hot of the heels of last years acclaimed studio effort Euporie Tide, and is a condensed manifestation of the low-end heavy side of the band. This show presents the band in elemental quartet mode and features a wide palette of cuts from the entire catalog. From the band's signature cut ”El Paraiso” from their 2005 debut, through revamps of the more translucent Summer Sessions material, straight up to virgin jams, fresh from the rehearsal room.

Mixed and mastered by Jonas Munk from multitrack recordings this set sounds as warm as crisp as any of the albums."
