Bassiani 9 hours 😱 live mix to kick off 2o25 💕💕

I’m releasing a ‘shorter’ version inc. room recording out of my 11h set from the legendary Horoom. For so many reasons it was one of my most joyful / meaningful sets I played in 2024. It was a Hydrash collective queer celebration started with a ball, a freestyle voguing dance session and a performance that led to my all-night-long set. For the entire 11h there was a true sense of togetherness and the energy was beautiful. I hope this energy comes through in the recording 👂✨ 

With a bitter taste, it all happened under the shadow of a new anti-LGBTQIA laws which a right-wing government had been preparing and fully enacted just two months later. These laws effectively criminalize being openly gay and label anything related to LGBTQIA+ identities as propaganda. The government as well prevents the freedom of the Georgian people to join the EU and using unlawful tactics to control the population will, including aggression and arresting of protestors. 

Tbilisi’s dance music scene has long been a powerful driver of change. Today, the club community is taking a stand, going on strike, and protesting in the streets. How can we support them? This is my closing set recorded live at Faggots Are Women in NYC. FAW isn’t one of those mid parties begging for attention, promising collective moral high ground without doing anything. This party is an entire world—full of gags, friendship, and intention. The art, copy, door policy, sound, lights, chill areas—and its very existence in today’s USA—is T. It bubbled up from a scene that needs it, agitates the status quo, and doesn’t seek outside validation—IYKYK.

Its theme: “Faggots are FLINTA*s: Escape from Berlin.” We know New Yorkers love to say “Berlin is over” (while others say NYC is over). Some say Berlin is known for cheap living, liberated mindsets, world-class nightlife, and hot people - but it’s also dark and easy to disappear. For me, how you feel there has always been an inkblot test: it depends on who you are right now. 

But since Oct 7, 2023, Berlin has changed radically. A place known for freedom of expression has descended in to a McCarthyist hellscape for pro-Palestine activists. Cultural institutions cooperate by silencing dissenting views, and police enforce this with overtly racist brutality. It affects everything — everyday life, art, music, dancing and fun.

Obviously the political situation is similarly bleak in the US. It feels like a bizarre time to celebrate, but also a critical time to be together with the people you love. This is why the level of intention here is important: worldbuilding by and for a community, even just for a night, has the power to nourish us in so many ways.

And so I tried to match that level for the closing. Not gonna spoil the references, but they are thick and deep, and call on some very important voices. It’s usually hard to listen back to a live set without focusing on the flaws. But in this recording, I think of Charlene giving me a quick face beat en route, the unsure gays when I started, the grind-train of culturatti dolls towards the end, and the gaggle of Colombian queers losing it for Shakira. The room was unhinged and alive, full of the best. This is for those who were there—and for those who get it.

Bass sits low and patient like a bomb under the table. No sermons. No permission slips. No PR polish. Dance first; argue later.

This is for the dancefloor kids who learned to read the world in strobes: for the ones who’ve been told to lower the volume, to be “reasonable,” to swallow the script and clap. No thanks.
Raise your chin. Middle-finger the teleprompter. Let the room sweat. Let the break hold its breath like a lie about to burst. When the drop hits, don’t be delicate—be undeniable.

I’m not naming names. If your stomach clenches, you already know why. Lobbyists in suits. Media varnish. Gold-plated morals. The algorithm sells you comfort; the floor sells you truth at 125 BPM. If you’ve ever danced with rage and left lighter, this one is yours.
