Preston-based "knob tweaker" Rob Woodward is back under his Demetae alias with a second outing of ‘all frills intended’ techno. This time, he’s armed with a cornucopia of salacious goods to keep all lovers of essential dance floor tackle thoroughly engaged.
Kicking things off, the EP chucks you straight in at the deep end with “DREAMSLAVE01”. Smartly enlisting samples from one of Woodward’s favourite digital masterpieces “Slave Zero” released in 1999, the track fluctuates on a sea of modular chaos as things move from one moment to the next with unpredictable delight.
Next, the enigmatically titled ‘EGNIT’ picks up the baton. This time things take a more organic turn, with sounds mimicking the silky and precise, microscopic movements of a centipede placed either side of the stomping, elephant-like percussion.
The modular fuckery continues with the unambiguous HANGRY, a thunderous, expansive exploration of extreme rage through lack of sustenance. It’s a frothing, half-starved monster that could bring on heart palpitations and broken bones if not approached with caution.
Demeate hops onto the hardcore continuum with the 90s jungle inspired FEAR, an amen break wielding slab of dark room dynamism. The perennial drum break is supplanted with the equally iconic sounds of a Roland 303, as snippets of vintage horror movies chop in and out of the jaunty rhythms and brutal low end.
The curtain closes with the long awaited release of RESIGN, another fine example of Woodward’s gift for intriguing, mangled sampling, evil beats and minimal acid licks. The bizarre, rapidly looped vocals morph into moments of ethereal levity, lifting the dank, basement dwelling, beat into more tripped-out, transcendent territory. It’s a fittingly impressive closer to an EP that never sits still, undoubtedly the most adventurous and rewarding EP of the Demetae project to date.

Drumskull is a London based producer and DJ whose highly regarded debut album 'Interlocked', released on Seagrave, gained attention from a broad spectrum of tastemaker DJs and music journalists upon it's release last year with his unique take on multiple genres including jungle, breaks, bass, deep house and broken beat. Lead single 'Negative 7' was then released with remixes from Etch, Benny Ill and Coco Bryce and received multiple plays on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra from the likes of Tom Ravenscroft and Avalon Emerson while attracting playlist and club support from Sherelle, Naina, Bailey Ibbs and Interplanetary Criminal amongst many others. Most recently Drumskull has been featured on Seagrave's 'Quarters Vol 1 EP' alongside Mani Festo, Low End Activist and Sicknote/Justice, with his track 'Phase Velocity' exploring jungle/footwork fusion as well as remixing 'Wind And Water' by Sentinel 793. Having already played guest mixes for shows on NTS, Threads, Rinse FM and Reprezent FM, and with some top secret projects in the pipeline for later in the year, Drumskull will doubtlessly be a name seen across the jungle/breaks/UKG scene as clubs and festivals begin to open back up.

TRAXSHNN – Tactility EP

After four years of near silence, underground techno duo TRAXSHNN return with their long-awaited new EP 'TACTILITY' an explosive statement of intent that proves the wait was worth it. Forged in sweat-soaked after-hours and sharpened in isolation, Tactility captures the raw, unfiltered energy that first defined their sound, now layered with the weight of time and evolution.

Opener 'ZOG' launches headfirst into junglist territory before a colossal bass drum comes in and pummels the track into submission. With nifty breaks and elegantly judged vocal edits, the tracks fizzes with energy throughout, utilising the iconic Amen Break with laser-guided precision.

Their predilection for freaky vocals surfaces once more on 'WAT', with ghetto house style samples finding themselves at the very heart of the track. The vocal is processed and modulated throughout to take the tight loop to its furthest possible conclusions, while a smart electro rhythm keeps the track marching forwards with a confident swagger. The live performance adds a feverish unpredictability that keeps things zesty throughout.

A sudden darkness descends when 'TRAVELLER' kicks in, as an armoured, techno behemoth lurches from the shadows to end the EP with a K.O. Whilst primed for the grimiest of warehouses, TRAXSHNN throw stuff into the mix you'd never have predicted. An aquatic, Drexciyan style synth busts a hole in the mechanical darkness, while the throwback use of 'future' grinds through differing levels of modular alchemy, pushing your senses to the limit.
