Rural is the first long-play work of Carlos Asimbaya, which sees a fully matured vision of Ecuadorian keyboard tradition catapulted into the futured and rhythmically sustained by the “bomba” percussion; an Afroandean element that bears witness to the unique history of this country. Trained in classical music composition and inspired by jazz music, Kaifo’s repertoire features haunting, extensive melodies and scales that informs listeners on the landscapes of Andean styles while providing a postmodern dancefloor experience. “Rural” finds a proud home under the Eck Echo roof, the house that delivers new and exciting shapes of global bass for our ever-growing audience.

Where does pop start and experimental music end? Instead of drawing lines, @red_on keeps on exploring the spaces in between these supposed poles with his latest album Phantom Easy, a record that offers moments of pure beauty as well as unpredictable, uncontrollable wilderness.

The spaces Red On moves in aren’t per se terra incognita, but have been explored in recent years by like-minded musicians such as How To Dress Well, Fever Ray, or Dawuna, as well as artists that are affiliated with Präsenes Editionen, where Red On’s album is published, such as @martina-lussi , @beliawinnewisser , or @magda-drozd . Yet, Phantom Easy is an exploration of its own: The melancholic album, which is informed by pop, electroacoustic music, rhythm-focused jazz, and krautrock, is carried by Red On's voice, which appears in ever-changing stages of alienation. The wistful tone of the twelve tracks is reinforced by single phrases sung by Red On that, through their repetition, develop an urgency that can hardly be escaped. The result is pop music that is brave enough to embrace the adventure; or experimental music that doesn’t shy away from offering catchy hooks and grand melodies.

Behind Red On is Philipp Dittmar, a producer, DJ and co-founder of Nuremberg label Verydeeprecords. In a productive, DIY-driven environment, which also includes the It Isn't Happening Festival, the Musikverein collective or the label Signal Weltfunk, Dittmar has released a number of EPs and albums over the past decade. Phantom Easy is the highlight of Red On's forward thinking work to date and underlines his innovative strength and artistic vision. For the live performances of Phantom Easy, Dittmar continues to work with visual artist Subrihanna; together they offer an ever-evolving, immersive audio-visual experience.

Phantom Easy is published by Präsens Editionen, a Switzerland-based platform for community-run publishing projects. It was founded in 2011 while launching zweikommasieben Magazin. Ever since music on vinyl, cassette, as well as in digital formats has been released next to zines, magazines, books, and some oddities as well. Recent audio releases include material by @samuelreinhard , Belia Winnewisser, Martina Lussi, @gewissheit , and Magda Drozd.

Red On - Wildlife

Aïsha Devi nurtures an idiosyncratic approach to her music. She describes her sound as Aetherave, and uses bassy-heavy club motifs and intentional aesthetic signifiers to transport listeners to a dizzying, kinetic environment, harnessing timeless frequencies. On each record, Devi has advanced her philosophy and developed her technology; her last album 'DNA Feelings' was a radical hybrid of ancient mysticism and rebellious pop, and 'Death is Home' propels listeners towards the extremes, bending fictile beats and cybernetic textures into transformational songs. This eagerly-awaited new album is a livable, breathable sonic essence that reveals itself alchemically, reorienting anachronistic cultural preconceptions with its contemporary, ornate language and eerie architecture.

'Death is Home' is ultimately a manifesto. It's Devi's most revealing work to date and a direct result of her personal evolution and ongoing quest. Growing up under the shadow of isolation and abuse, she formed her practice as a healing method, using it to neutralize her past and recreate an alternate, more hospitable reality - beyond the human condition. 
Her feelings were compounded when she tracked down the whereabouts of her father B.K. Gurung, a Nepali drummer whom she never knew. Devi was informed he had died young, but rather than perceive this as a binary, through mourning, she realized that his existence had already offered her a lifeline and a refuge. 

Devi's words and productions reach out to a place where weightlessness has the power to dissolve the corporeal world's manufactured terror of death. Without this trepidation, life's boundaries and limitations fall away. "Burn the flesh, a Deva's born," she sings over tense, pneumatic kicks on 'Not Defined by the Visible'. Her voice is contorted by electronic processes, but the meaning is human: to reach the holy, we must shed our skin. The narrative that guides the album unfurls with the plasticity of an open-world videogame, a space where one can unravel the dogma of life vs. death. On 'Lick Your Wounds', Devi reveals her deepest trauma, pacifying it with rousing, ritualistic rhythms and melancholic pads. "Vapors of violence remain in my broken bones, intoxicate my DNA," she invokes. "I'll lick my wounds and heal at night. I'll take over." She extends this invitation to anybody tuned in to her signals, providing lodging for those that crave it. Birth is virtual. Death is home.

Lucia Kagramanyan is a Vienna-based Dj also known as a host of NTS radio show Panorama Yerevan, which is showcasing solely Armenian music in its huge variety. Lucia is researching Armenian music and makes it accessible via one-hour episodes that focus either on different genres or moods, mixing together old and new recordings. Her balance between obscure and obvious and digger highlights as a selector and DJ can be heard on radio waves of Palestinian Radio Alhara, and past guest shows on Red Light Radio, Reform Radio Bristol, Rinse Fm, Operator Radio in Rotterdam, and others.

Präsens Editionen was founded in 2011 to give home to zweikommasieben Magazin. Ever since a bunch of magazines, books, zines, records, tapes and oddities have been published.

zweikommasieben is a Swiss magazine that has been devoted to the documentation of contemporary music and sounds since the summer of 2011. The magazine features artist interviews, essays and columns as well as photography, illustration and graphics. In addition zweikommasieben curates and organizes a variety of events—for example Ebbing Sounds, a symposium that initially was held in the summer of 2018 in San Francisco, or the biennial London-based festival Oto Nove Swiss.
