Ellsee's Theme

In my opinion, this is the best track I have on the album, and it was certainly the most fun to produce. The pad is sampled from the last couple of chords from Arvo Pärt's Magnificat, played backwards and cut up, because it had this otherworldly and melancholy quality to it that I felt really fit Albion, and her relationship with her ancestor.

The drums seemed to come together pretty naturally, starting off with a few hats cut up and reversed and mixed together for an energetic opening with a sweet, slightly out of tune melody plucking in in the background (symbolic, perhaps, of Albion being told to resist the urge to act of her own accord?).

This energy dies down, though, when we're treated to an unnaturally cut up drumbeat with some very warped lo-fi guitars over the top. I tried to get the guitars sounding like they're sampled from *something*, but the truth is I just wrote a handful of short phrases, rendered them, cut them up and warped them for a lo-fi sound. There's a timbral dissonance between a barely-affected, wide sound of the choir from Magnificat, and the small, rough guitar sound superimposed over the top that I felt really fit a character as torn between her own will and the fate demanded of her as Albion is. Austin still won't let me hug her though. :(

The tripleted outro doesn't really have any direct narrative significance, but it's sampled from the previous drum section, chopped up and rearranged to form a wholly different groove that somehow sounds a lot more peaceful than its predecessor.
