Moving from Steam- to Cyber- prefixes in this one, hopefully retaining some punk.  With the definitive cyberpunk flick Blade Runner providing the inspiration here, this is a transitional track for me.  I’ve finished my Steamy album (sorry, it really will be out soon, I promise!!) and I’m moving on to some disassemblage of acoustic instruments, both metaphorically and literally.  But in the mean time I have to get the dregs of industrial demolition and digital grime out of my system, which is why this track now exists.  Please enjoy:  Free to download. LHC Remix:  "System Exit"

I put this together very quickly as demo of my music for Game producers.  The tune is inspired by an imaginary game along these lines:  

A little robot goes on adventures.  He is powered by fusion and steam.  The setting is an alternative 20th Century, where the apocalypse occurred around about World War I.  Technology has progressed differently, with no iphones and PCs, but electro-mechanical self-aware analogue computers instead.  The little robot has to solve puzzles, avoid traps and thwart giant ironclad enemies of various sorts.

If you're wondering why I'm starting to use the genre "Mathstep" it's because a) I think that sounds cool and b) I've started using a bit of simple arithmetic to construct interesting or non-regular rhythms and patterns.

Drunken Kung Fu is a good thing to be musically inspired by.  Here’s a tune with sounds from Drunken Master – a 1970s kung fu film with Jackie Chan.  In terms of my fantasy vision, it’s kinda cyber-retrospective, like some Hong Kong guy in 2050 learning kung fu from old movies.   I’ve tried to, err… “remix” one of my favourite songs – it pops up again and again in Wong Fe Hung movies, and I’m told that it’s called 男儿当自强  If you’re Chinese and you happen to know anything about the history of this tune, I’d love to hear about it – I’ve enjoyed it since I was a kid.

Here’s a tune with a few little bits in it you may know, if you’re a fan of Bootsy Collins.

Various samples taken from Industrial Power (Bruton Music, 1978) Keith Mansfield in particular.  Some of the drumming is by Mark Henman, although he may not realise that.

The tempo is 76, which is the year I was born (I began this track on my birthday).    I'm going to try to do an animated clip for this one so watch out for the Youtube version :) . 

Giant Robot Factory Dance Party (working title, work in progress)

This is just a demo of uncharacteristic Voyager sounds - just to show it does more than "vanilla."  There is only ever one instance (no more than one track at a time) - only what a single voyager can sound like at a given time.  I did, however, butt six examples together with some edits.  There is 100% no signal processing, except a limiter on the master.  All the stereo effects are straight from the Voyager (a lot of people underestimate or misunderstand this feature of it).

This is a concept EP - what I like to call "Adventure Music" featuring elements of glitch EDM shot through with steampunk industry, millenia old Vedic chants and science fiction complexity.

I have spent most of my life making music in many genres, both for myself and to help others, yet I am only now putting out my first album of my own music.  Accordingly it represents an outpouring of complicated ideas which might not suit everyone's taste but for me is inevitable.  I'll keep you posted on its progress.

This tune is another one of my "one synth challenges."  All sounds including percussion have been generated with the Moog Voyager.  The Voyager is a monophonic synth - it can only play one note at a time - so of course there is quite a lot of layering in this one!  You can download this one for free.  Go for it.

Submarine

I found a bunch of old tunes on my HD today… this is from a couple of years back when I was just getting into electronic production.  Back in the day I used to enjoy making space funk.  I worked on a few tunes that are a cross between the soundtrack for 90s video games and Chick Corea… (or something like that).  This tune features Old Man Henderson on the guitar, with Clint Allen (trumpet), me (keys), Sam Vincent (bass), and Mark Henman (chopped up into bits).

Praxis Axis is the electronical alter ego of Thomas Green, a composer from Brisbane.  Tom writes music of many different varieties, but presently is hoping to put out an album for Praxis Axis, featuring what he likes to call "Adventure Music," or music evoking fantasy and science fiction imagery.  His sound is sometimes serious and often funny, but hopefully always is his own.
