Ronnie Lee Robbins - Nothing Wrong With That

Amy Grant’s #1 Baby, Baby was released in ‘91 on a blockbuster 5x platinum selling album “Heart In Motion”, which turned 30 years old in 2021! I recorded the bass and drums in Garageband; then went onto the singing app, Smule, and recorded my strummin’ uke cover karaoke and lucked out in a collab with Michelle Dawn joining in a special live, one take performance. She killed it to me! 

I am a lifelong fan of Amy’s music. Never get tired of hearing it. And this song was not easy to unlock as it really has a secret sauce which I believe is all in the articulation of strums. It was as challenging to learn as the bowing articulation of a Mozart Violin Concerto… way back when I played violin.

I really love done-me-wrong breakup songs done in a clever way. Ingrid Michaelson’s HELL NO is one of my faves. I love so many of her songs, but this is a big one for me. Lauryn sang it so nicely, I’m so grateful. I created drums, bass on GarageBand, recorded uke parts live (2 ukes). 

This was another fun collab, recorded in full takes, live, via Acapella App.

The idea for this smashup happened entirely by accident. I had collected a binder full of songs I wanted to learn from the 80’s, 90’s, and was playing through a bunch, including Kylie’s big hit and a couple pages later, “Every Breath You Take” by The Police. I was thinking “Damn, these songs have creepy lyrics.” Then it stuck in my head, I could hear the various themes from the Police interjected into CGYOOMH very naturally. 

Then I thought about “What if I imagined it like The Bodyguard? International star… creepy stalker fan…” and the themes from “Every Breath” haunting/STALKING the Kylie tune?

Voila, some middle eastern percussion, some uke strums and plucks, and then the Police heard in pizzicato strings woven in… 

Here it is. And remember stalking is a crime! DO call the police.
