Following on from Tu Sei Pazza, Daniel Monaco returns to the Bordello with the bitter taste of the TB303 on his tongue. Acid Maria smoulders with the intensity of a Belgian new beat banger circa 1989. Smoky words whisper over rusted rhythms before the fog and strobe take hold. Cold strings haunt with snaking coils of 303 squawk growing ever bolder in this intense track. The flip is divided into two very different remixes. First up is Curses who approaches the piece in his own unique way. The fanfare and frigid lines of the original are expanded. Strings come care of guitars as a bright synth wave reimaging unfolds, a reimaging with one of the most daring breaks you are likely to ever hear. Younger Than Me close. This interpretation adds a fevered tone to the original. BPMs rise and pitches are pushed while chilly notes soon balloon into a frenzy to bring a full floor energy. Three tracks born to bring brimming basements into the beyond.

Vienna's Florian Stoffelbauer is the man behind the Heap alias. He uses it sporadically to drop cultured deep techno on labels like Mechatronica and Neubau and has done for around six years now. This new long player is the first we have heard from him in almost three years but it has been worth the wait. False Hope on Canadian label Isla is slow and snaking techno with icy atmospheres and a sleek sense of futurism. It's stylish in design and heady in mood with standouts like 'Inner Peace' drawing you into a world of intrigue and mystery. The title track brings lush cosmic melodies over gentle kick patterns and somehow soothes the mind, body and soul. Nice work indeed.

Rising Bulgarian talent Aerton / Aiho follows releases on Nervous Records, Time Has Changed, Distance Music and several others with a stunning addition to his catalogue as he launches his own underground label, Curated, with a delightfully deepened two-track EP - ‘Habits’. 

Kicking things off with the title track, ‘Habits’ opens the show with punchy jackin grooves and catchy musicality from the outset. Minimalist percussion adds character to the mix alongside resonant tones and reverberated vox injections as it continues to build a funky core. A track with atmospheric soundscapes and instrumental flair, it’s a guaranteed vibe-builder. 

‘Neck & Wrist’ rounds off the release with more chunky late-night grooves from the off. A hearty kick and subbass combo bring swing to the mix whilst delicate layers of melody ripple throughout the track’s journey. Vibrant synth stabs and effecting fills pulsate deep into its core, supplemented by layers of crisp percussive variance and subtle vox splashes, keeping you on your toes from start to finish.

Lis Sarroca curates another outstanding release on her Maai Records label, this time calling on five female producers for an energetic, club orientated EP, maneuvering between low end leaned breakbeat, and classy house cuts. Serving up the heat we have Kendra, Aldonna, Glo My, MLF and Monile. 

Diving in at the deep end is the chunky and in your face “Break My Filter” by Kendra, paying homage to the dusty breaks sounds of the 90s, huge drum work and a chugging sub heavy bass, screaming for the peak time moments. Next up is Australian rising star Aldonna, crammed with raw emotion and rugged emotion. “Lotus” is a track for the moments built upon an elasticated groove combined with dreamy otherworldly synths transcending the listener. Glo My brings forward an eccentric house cut, cruising on a deeper emotion than its predecessor, she presents to you “Sang Woo”. MLF’s “Oh My Break” is another enormous breakbeat trip, constantly simmering, evolving into pure dance floor frenzy as the tension builds gently from the start, spaced out beeps and bleeps whirring positively around the heart of the track. Last but not least is Monile’s “Play”, a track that remains slightly more grounded using nostalgic drums, and a warm and infectious bass line, ready to make you move, becoming increasingly animated as the track develops. 

Maai Records is a tightly run ship by Barcelona based Lis Sarroca, and her impeccable taste shines strong with this versatile selection of tracks on the label crafted by a flourishing group of artists.
