Zealous Records is a record label and party brand based in Nottingham, UK. Founded in 2020 as TRIPPIN Records, they start 2023 with a fresh rebrand as Zealous Records. 

Zealous Records are kicking off with a statement debut release, fittingly from a brand new artist Ali U. 

Ali is already turning heads off the back of his massive edit of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, counting the likes of Marco Carola, Seb Zito, East End Dubs, Mason Collective and Eddy M as regular supporters of his productions.

First up is 'Queen', a classy yet funky cut. From the off, Ali brings in some groovy percussion and shakers, building the track nicely while dripping some hooky saxophone elements throughout for good measure. All of this, combined with tambourines and topped off with vocal chops give it a jazzy and funky feel, drenched in sass and attitude. The perfect dancefloor groover!

Premiere: Ali U - Queen [Zealous Records]

Almost one year has passed since our first chapter, and the notes quickly started gathering together, giving life to something that goes beyond the ordinary. We tried to stay out of sight and remained as inconspicuous as possible for a while, but our sound was way too loud: this led us to come out. 

While we step out of the shadows, the Take Notes crew recruits London-based artist Ben Sterling. The Planet X and X-Files label boss makes his versatile sound one of his best skills, and for his Take Notes debut, he follows up the snaking, minimal sound of his Solid Grooves release for the entitled 'BBB' EP. Both the originals provide hefty minimal rhythms lulled by delicious percussive patterns, playful vocal chops and wisely-written shuffling grooves. 

The grand finale is courtesy of Romanian-established SEPP, who turns 'RRR' into a gigantic, energy-driven anthem, as thunderous bassline and heavy kickdrums meet hi-pitched chants and sweeping synths, all together into a rumbling, celestial remix.

Influential contemporary house tastemaker Prunk is to serve-up his new album Le Funk on his own PIV Records in 2023. The nine track record showcases his mastery of sublime and seductive sounds from across the house spectrum.

Dutchman Prunk has slowly but surely become a real underground mainstay. He has built a fine collective of talents on his own label and spearheaded a new take on house music that is all about real feelings and effortless grooves. His standout solo and collaborative material has seen releases via the likes of Djebali, Key Records, Ewax and of course PIV, while he has headlined clubs and festivals all over the world. Next to this his own often sold out label showcases that have taken place everywhere from fabric (London) to Shelter (Amsterdam) vis The BPM Festival.

Now he makes his most completed coherent statement yet with his adventurous new album Le Funk. It is a distillation of all his influences and many years of house history with plenty of his own fresh signature touches.

Firing into 2023, Do Not Sleep drops its first release of the year and welcomes the fast rising artist, Milion, to the label with a powerful two track EP titled 'Check Dis EP' and the young Dutchman does not disappoint. 

Since dropping his first release back in 2020, the young Dutchman has been swiftly moved through the ranks, with his high quality deep, grooving Minimal sounds with his releases on profile labels such as Heavy House Society, PIV, MicroHertz, and Airtime. His music has been heavily supported by those in the know including Michael Bibi, Skream, Jamie Jones, Archie Hamilton, Julian Anthony, Seb Zito, Rich NxT, Chris Stussy, Sidney Charles and many many more. 

We kick off with the title track 'Check Dis', with its tastefully worked vocal samples and exquisite arrangement this one is a rolling and bouncing party starter that's guaranteed to get you off your seat and dancing.

Seb Zito drops his first release of the year on his respected Seven Dials Records imprint, releasing his two track ‘When You EP’ where he showcases his ever more sophisticated sound. 

In the last 12 months Zito has released his mature and cultured sounds on select profile labels, like Revival NYC, Eastenderz, Pets Recordings, Four Thirty Two, Coco, Do Not Sleep and Seven Dials. Never one to pigeon hole his sound, his releases have transcended the genre spectrum from UK G and Electronica through to Minimal Deep Tech and Tech House, as he consistently delivers underground club cuts that keep clubbers enthralled and on the floor. His recent releases have been supported not only by the scene’s glitterati, but also by the scene’s youngest and brightest talents, as he carves out a unique musical path that is slightly left of centre yet always in tone for the audience. 

His new release ‘When You EP’ showcases this, with the lead and title track of the EP, leading from the front foot with its breakbeat electronica essence right from the get-go. Adding a delicate soft vocal which complements the dream-like atmosphere and this is a track for those with a discerning ear and for lovers of contemporary artists such as Bicep, Dusky, Floating Points and Four Tet. 

On the flip side is ‘Let’s Go!’ where Zito reverts to a four to the floor beat, keeping things gritty with a gnarly bassline groove and loads of energy, whilst retaining the left of centre feel that has made his sound increasingly popular over recent years.
