James Poole drops ‘Make The Dream Work’ on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax this December
Following releases on Materialism, South Of Saturn, and his previous ‘Tuff Luck’ EP on Hottrax, UK-based DJ/producer James Poole returns to Jamie Jones’ imprint with another set of three skippy, UKG-influenced house tracks for the 99th release on Hottrax.
Leading the release is the title track ‘Make The Dream Work’, which combines a catchy organ lead and soulful vocal samples for a bouncy opening track. ‘Ruff Love’ follows, upping the tempo with pumping drums and heavy basslines before ‘Too Cool To Dance' rounds up the release with stuttery synths and vocal hooks.

'Silicon Arm' EP is injected with two original tunes and brings the firm sound of the duo. The title track immediately catches the listener with its immersive drum groove, which is fulfilled with funked bassline, creating a perfect minimalistic vibe. The tune is given a cool vibe with glitched pianos, chopped vocal fx, and outer space pads that lay on top. The b-side, 'Encantado', has a jazzy flavour and a great groove thanks to the cohesive combination of percussion, bass, and synthesizers.

AJ Christou is back on his home label Boogeyman with more of his expertly designed and utterly compelling house grooves. This one follows many standout tunes on the likes of Cuttin' Headz and Robsoul Recordings, and an artist who is a regular at the world's finest clubs.

'Gory Love' kicks off with warm, vamping chords that bring the heat to a slick tech beat. The rolling bassline is utterly infectious and deft vocals finish it in style with hints of soul. 'Turtle Dove' has a heavier beat and is sprinkled with loose toms and percussion. The hi hats through are razor airy and the balmy synths that circle the groove bring that heady and jazzy feel. 'Noachis' is the closer and this one brings more brilliant punchy drum work and lush guitar riffs that speak of Ibiza sunsets and good time dances.

This is another standout EP from contemporary tastemaker AJ Christou.

MicroHertz is back with another cracker of an EP from Daan Steenman and Rooléh, who together bring the heat with their 2 track EP ‘Keep A Steady’. 

Hailing from the Netherlands, Daan Steenman started playing the guitar when he was 10 years old and from the age of 15 he really got into electronic music. His musical partner in crime, Roolėh is no stranger to the scene either, having dipped his toes in genres like Hip Hop, Soul and Disco, and you can tell these two are destined for great things, as between them, they have already released on highly regarded labels such as Moxy Muzik, Airtime, and Key Records 

Starting with the title track ‘Keep A Steady’ you can expect the same quality sounds that has pushed MicroHertz to the very top of interesting labels recently. A big room track that moves effortlessly through the motions with its gripping groove, a wicked vocal cut and a stab to die for… Add to that a massive bassline and an enormous drop to seal the deal. 

On the flip side we find the driving ‘Remember I’. A sluggish affair spearheaded by a catchy percussion beat that soon joins up with a killer bass that pushes this bad boy to the stratosphere. Again, the boys bring a dope groove laced with awesome drops and on point FX’s to close this awesome EP out in style.

The Toronto native's brand of house is chunky, groovy, deep and funky, taking cues not only from previous collaborators such as DJ Sneak, but also those of his contemporaries that make great use of dusty samples and killer drum programming. As a result, Visions manages to work both as a collection of club-focused cuts and an album you can listen to repeatedly from start to finish. Our picks of a pleasingly strong bunch include the fluid, disco-tinged, Hipnotic-sampling brilliance of 'Mind, Body & Soul Call Me', TUSH hook-up 'Skylar' (a superb slab of gospel-tinged soulful house) and the delicious Fred P collaboration 'Dream (Part II)'.

hedZup records label head WLAD presents us his new album KISS which finds him collaborating on eight fresh cuts with some of the scene's top names. They are Oden & Fatzo, iO (Mulen), Luca Donzelli, De La Swing, DJ Steaw, Mancini, MADVILLA, Project89, Theos and KONG and it all makes for vital listening. 

WLAD, Oden & Fatzo, Theos and KONG kick off with Korean BBQ, a vibey cut with silky pads and nice deep house beats that come alive with great samples and boogie bass. WLAD & Luca Donzelli – Señor Espresso is more physical, with smart filters used and tripped out designs making it a cosmic joy, before WLAD & iO (Mulen) - Blackout gets more tense. As always it is spaced out house but with a menacing bassline. WLAD & De La Swing close out the first 12" with Let's Dance, a percussive, slinky number that dances about with looseness and electronic funk. 

Disc2 opens with WLAD & DJ Steaw's Culture Club, a speedy and stripped back cut with molten bass and neon pads, then WLAD & Mancini – Early Bird is a clipped tech groove with rich, rubbery bass and drums making the tune really pop. WLAD & MADVILLA's Nu Phase is all about the percolating bass, sci-fi sound designs and heady groove. WLAD & Project89 – Won't Let You Down round out this most stylish album with another futuristic take on electronic house funk. 

This is a superb statement from WLAD who is now firmly entrenched at the cutting edge of underground house.
