London label RAWSTREET hits release number four with a new EP from man of the moment, Ray Mono. He serves up three new tunes that showcase his slick, hypnotic minimal house style. It has come on labels like Moxy Muzik, hedZup Records and Pleasure Zone amongst many others, and impresses again here. 

On the Grind is a dark tune with a grubby bassline. It has loopy drums that get you in a state of trance and icy hi hats. Expenses Paid then has a more warped and funky feel, with trippy synths sliding through the beats and making you move. 

Times Up closes out in sci-fi style with nice cosmic pads and silky drums, more rich bass notes and a fluid groove that is truly irresistible. 

Once again then Ray Mono strikes a fine note.

Decay lead from the front once more with Decade Made 7, another vital various artists EP which marks the label’s 7 year anniversary and features red hot underground talents Mihai Popoviciu, James Dexter, Christian Burkhardt and Ray Mono.

The goal of Decay Records has always been to push quality, hypnotic, dubby grooves withoutfocusing on trends or hype, something they have done consistently since their launch in 2013 and continue to do here with their 7th birthday release, Decay Made 7.

Kicking off this latest VA from the label is Romanian Mihai Popoviciu, considered one of the most innovative eastern European producers of electronic music today. He opens with ‘Biology’, a bubbly, deep cut groove with slick hits gliding up top. It’s a track full of warmth that sinks you into a glazed-eye reverie. Dessous, Lefroom and Inermu associate James Dexter is a young but vital talent who represents the new wave of artists that are simmering in the London deep house underground. His ‘And Then’ has long legged, dubbed out kick drums that make for a cavernous groove, whilst smeared, warped chords fill in the spaces and ensure an ever-headier atmosphere as things roll on. 

Christian Burkhardt has long been at the heart of the freshest tech house, putting out his well-designed loops on mainstay labels. Here he serves up ‘Quanta’, an icy-cool track with tripped out sonic details and sci-fi effects that make for real mind music. Last of all, former Mono_Cult resident and now Fuse and Moxy Music associate Ray Mono brings his expert minimal to the EP with ‘Uncut.’ It is a tough, bumping cut with razor sharp design and a pristine sense of late night funk finished with neon synth colours. 

These are four perfectly designed and infectious tracks that are both slick and compelling.

Premiere: Sam Haskin - Movie Night [TBX Records]

Moan Recordings welcome the man of the moment Ray Mono for a new EP that features two more of his superbly slick house tracks, this time with a remix from the Moxy Musik label boss Darius Syrossian. Mono has been knocking it out of the park of late thanks to big tunes on the likes of Moxy Muzik and hedZup Records and he has a stripped back but full flavour sound that is perfect for heady crowds and sweaty basements. 

Opener What Would You Do is on well programmed drums that are funky and neat, underpinned by an infectious baseline and finished with some slinky synths and vocals that bring the groove. It is high class dancing music with plenty of flavour. 

Darius Syrossian then steps up to remix with a more intense remix that is rippled with late night chords and neon pads as well as a soulful vocal. As ever with this artist, the grooves are undeniable. 

The Get Down from Ray Mono then gets busy, with skipping beats and icy hi hats all making for an uplifting house cut that has warm, diffusing chords and plenty of sci-fi details that place it firmly in the future.
