In celebration of Preservation Hall's residency at Ace Hotel New Orleans on Tuesday, April 26, we are proud to stream "Joe Lastie and The Lastie Family Gospel." Joe Lastie and The Lastie Family Gospel perform from 4 - 5:15 PM at Three Keys at Ace Hotel New Orleans and the event is free and open to the public. "Joe Lastie and The Lastie Family Gospel" was originally planned as a straight jazz album and project by Preservation Hall drummer Joe Lastie Jr. with a few gospel tracks. However, members of Lastie family and the late organist Reverend Leon Vaughn (now musically survived by his son Christopher) more or less took over the session with impromptu performances of some gospel standards. The result is a heartfelt and earthy exploration of classic Southern gospel music. It’s the casual, unrehearsed nature of these performances that gives them their vibrancy, with the Lastie family singing for themselves and the Deity.

Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to preserve, perpetuate, and protect one of America’s truest art-forms: traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, a record label, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues their mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture.

Situated in the heart of the French Quarter at 726 St. Peter Street, Preservation Hall presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts nightly featuring some of New Orleans finest performers, showcasing a musical legacy dating back to the origins of jazz itself. The touring Preservation Hall Jazz Band presents the music of New Orleans worldwide with over 100 tour dates annually, which have included performances at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, The Hollywood Bowl, the United Nations, and Austin City Limits.
