Derek Carr is a name known by few and far between, with only a handful of vinyl releases in the early 2000s, he built a worthy but unfortunately not widely-spread reputation for putting together stunning deep techno. Originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on Discogs, and rightly so, Derek’s music is in a class of its own. Having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner Ben) Leeds label Geek records, For Those That Knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of Derek’s back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves, spread across three EPs

Part three in Derek’s starts with Cuba, probably the most sought after track in his back catalogue. It's stunning simplicity and charming summer vibe puts it amongst Derek's greatest works and understandably so. Red then slots into the A2 position which was originally released under the radar on a Headspace compilation. As warm as Cuba but with an added touch of melancholy. Truly outstanding deep house.

Iceberg takes things back more into techno territory with a funked up bass line, stepping rhythms, Detroit strings and those trademark twinkly leads. Finally Penthouse Apartment 3AM a lush electro breakbeat track from the very hard to find Trident release, rounds off the EP with aplomb.

With a total of more than 150 releases, the labels have been making their marks by presenting different types of electronic music, from techno to minimal to deep house with everything in between. Combining established producers and youngsters, Morris Audio has an impressive artist roaster. Remember the likes of Dub Taylor, Jackmate, Hakan Lidbo, Burnski, Till von Sein, Kris Wadsworth, Iron Curtis, Oli Furness, Dash Dude, Tom Ellis&Leif or Brame just to name a few? It has been “club and home entertainment” for years and we celebrate this 100th release with two parts of well crafted tech/house tunes. Part 1 is the more techy one and features Morris fella Iron Curtis, new signing Anna Wall & Corbi, and swiss boys Replika and Elvis Cassetta. Collectors item!

Germany’s Rough Recordings delivers a double 12’’ compilation this June/July, entitled Rough Cutz #Four and featuring music from Ruff Stuff, Kevin Over, Tilman, label-head Tobi Danton and more.
Rough Recordings and it’s Rough Limited sub-label was launched by Tobias Hölzel aka Tobi Danton and Daniel Napolitano in 2014 out of Stuttgart, Germany and over the years has release its contemporary twist on classic house sounds from the likes of Ruff Stuff, Black Loops, Diego Krause, Kevin Over and more.
Here the label welcomes several of the aforementioned back for the fourth instalment of its Rough Cutz series. Across the package Tobi Danton, Frag Maddin and Tilman deliver raw deep house cuts employing the classic tropes of swinging rhythm’s, airy chord sequences and hazy vocals.
Ruff Stuff’s ‘Metro Alchemy’ lays down a more synth-led feel via choppy bass and fluttering arpeggios while Dub Striker’s ‘Blurred Vision’ opens the release on a cinematic tip. Further contributions come from Annéke Laurent, who embraces a more stripped-back textureal aesthetic as well as music from Kevin Over and dotSTRIPE who lean further towards a more bumpy House feel.
